Well, I was able to watch the match tonight on Setanta (if you don't have Setanta, and like League 1, you need to do whatever it takes to get it!). Couple of quick thoughts.

1) Bravo Lille fan! Lens was packed full of Lille fans and it was the hotest atmosphere in all of Matchday 2 of the Uefa Champions League! I couldn't beleive it!
2) Very even match, and it could have been 1-1, 2-2 or 3-3 in the end. 0-0 doesn't show the quality of the match.
3) Both teams could have stolen 3 points, but the draw was about deserved. Lille did NOT look outclassed on any part of the pitch.
4) Hey Domenech, there's this guy named Mathieu Bodmer who's pretty damned good. You might want to give him a call!
5) Keita was amazing today, so dangerous, so strong. He caused Milan all sorts of problems.

First Champions League match that I've seen La Marseillaise broken into on multiple occasions. What an atmosphere!

Yea i just saw the match on setanta too and i have to say Allez Lillois !!! It was a pretty even match, with Lille having to absorb some pressure here and there. Though both teams had their oppurtunities to score, id would have to admit that Milan had the better ones overall. Nice match, definately 1-1 or 2-2 would have been a more fitting scoreline.

HUH ? Attendence was only a little over half full, 22,500. How could it be "packed full" with the hottest atmosphere all day ? Lille fans didnt show up if their was only 22,000 there. The stadium holds like 40,000.

I checked the attendence for this match and it says its was 22,500 which is a little more than a half full stadium. What does that low number say or mean ? It either means Lille fans hate the idea of playing in their rival's stadium and refused to travel the short distance to see the match or it means Lille dont have very many fans. Hey Id understand 22,000 if they played AEK or Anderlecht but against Milan it should have been close to a sellout. I dont know what to make of this.

Unless all 23k were on the same side of Felix Boellart, then I have trouble beleiving this. That stadium was packed and it was all the Lymey announcers could talk about prior to kickoff.

yes, it did look pretty full on TV but bollaert has 2 tiers and huge ends, so you can fill up the TV screen more easily than the stadium.

still, you've got to remember that the match was on national TV, and also that an in-stadium fanbase isn't going to expand or contract instantaneously; lille's stadium only holds 18,000, so 20,000 already is more than a normal sellout for them. you're not going to see 24,000 fans who never go to the stadium drive to lens just because it's milan.

as for the match, it became very entertaining... i was disappointed in the first half-hour to see lille doing so little to challenge milan... (c'mon, kaka and seedorf put on their pants one leg at a time just like you guys!) but once they got a few runs of their own, their awe dropped away. conversely, milan at that point realized that just standing there with the ball until gilardino found some space was not going to do the trick, and it really became a football match.

basically when the ball was still milan was dangerous, when it was moving it was lille. the dogs were obviously inferior in technique (except keita  ) but superior physically. at one point odemwingie ate up kaka like a ham sandwich... kaka didn't even hear him coming until he was already past him :p .

most of lille's best chances came from outside the box, but they were great chances... bodmer, tafforeau, makoun, and the young striker that came on... missile city! dida gets his case of beer for last night's work for sure!

Can someone please link this attendance number, because I can't find it anywhere.

Yea there were some rockets fired that were unlucky not to go in. Its always good to see a ligue 1 team put a good effort in. Whenever a ligue 1 team plays in a european cup, theyre playing for the whole national league which seems to have lost alot of respect in the world.

Sportboy, I don't know where, you're getting your info..... But the only place I've seen attendance numbers is football365, and they report over 35k for this match. That is almost full, and for a midweek game 30 minutes from home, that is brilliant.

35.000 lucky people who saw one heckuva match!

well, if you read lille's forums you'll find that most people that went to the game were quite happy about it.
