It was a good match. Lille was winning for the first 80 minutes, but Lyon pounced on their opportunities and took advantage of Lille's tiredness and frustration towards the end of the match.
I thought Lille played well, and though they might not have the offensive manpower to put a dent in Man United next week, I think their defensive capabilities are really strong.
Good luck next Tuesday!

Claude Puel's reaction to the match:

Thanks Douai. Work has been crazy the last several months and might get crazier still...which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Anyway, good luck this week!

although i don't exactly share puel's view of the OL match (lille had even fewer chances than lyon, who also had a clear penalty denied) i certainly agree with what the beeb writes, and i think the pugnacious match the dogues put up against us is great lead-in for MU... they got a reminder that you need to keep it up right to the whistle, and with bollaert behind them they'll find the juice to do it.

I think that Lille are going to give ManU a really hard time tomorrow. :D

I really hope Lille will stage an upset tomorrow night, but I just can't see where the goals (if any) are gonna come from. Odemwingie's form has been suffering all along and Keita's suspension is a big, big blow for them.
I guess Bodmer will have to find a way to keep this tie alive.

Disgraceful displays from the police and Lille fans, players and staff. People could have died tonight. Whining about correct decisions is in very poor taste.

Yes, that did not help the club's image at all.The match was pretty interesting. At first I thought LOSC scored, but there was clearly a push on Vidic. There were several chances to score on both sides (more so for Manchester United).I think it is as simple as Lille was not prepared on that free kick by Giggs. It was right to count Giggs' goal, in my opinion.

It's good to read a sensible reponse to the matter, as unfortunately our board has been invaded by trolls. You are a credit to your club. Have some positive rep.

Rule says Lille players must be warned of referee's decision. Have they been ?

I really would like to hear the referee explaining himself. On one hand, I didn't like Lille walking off the pitch, I thought that was kind of naive, but I understand that they feel robbed not once but twice.

I've seen references on the Man U board and now the BBC about concerns raised by Man U about Lens allegedly substandard stadium which completely mystifies me. BBC implied that Lens ground was antiquated and too small. With a capacity over 40,000 and millions of Euros of renovations done to the stadium over the past decade or so I don't understand the problem. I also couldn't find any media reports prior to the match with Man U voicing their concerns.
Obviously what happened tonight was a near tragedy and Lille fans acted in an unacceptable way over the goal. The pitch I understand was not in the greatest condition though it seemed in good shape against Pana in the match Thursday. Security, which I understand from a friend of mine who is in charge of Lens' security was handled by Lille, was obviously not what it needed to be tonight either which perhaps is a function of Lille not being used to larger crowds.

Disgraceful displays from the police and Lille fans, players and staff. People could have died tonight. Whining about correct decisions is in very poor taste.i'm not sure the decision on odemwingie's goal was correct. if that's the level of contact that gets sanctioned, then rooney deserves a penalty kick for being pushed down in the box 10 times as violently.
the decision on the FK is obviously "correct", but nothing will ever convince me it wasn't underhanded and unworthy of a great player like giggs.
but thanks for coming over and lecturing us on poor taste.
