Pekerman met with Lux today to tell him that he is not going to the World Cup. Ustari will take his place. I think that's messed up..
Don't get me wrong, I love Ustari and think he's one of our best goalkeepers, but think about it:
Ustari never played for the national team.
Ustari bearly has around 35 or so professional games played.
Ustari never played in any international competition.. And by international I don't just mean with the NT.. He hasn't played in a Libertadores or Sudamericana with Independiente.
Poor Lux, his brother committed suicide a few months ago, and now this.. He has been with the NT for years now, and one day before the WC List is confirmed, he's kicked out.. It must really suck for him. =\
Anyway, what are your opinions on Pekerman's decision.. I think if anyone deserved to stay home, it was Abbondanzieri..

I thnk if anyone deserves to be a starter its Leo Franco! No offence lux is good but he's kind of slow and honestly after what ive seen and knows in soccer coloccini has experience does that mean he's good? experience is not everything a good player is a good player no matter what!

I just read the official news on Ole myself. Have to have mixed feelings about it LxR ... Lux had certainly done everything on his side to be at the WC.
But as I forecasted a few weeks ago, the race for 3rd goalie was between Lux and Ustari. And felt that Ustari had the edge. Because he will be the NT goalie in the near future and because he had a great year. He will gain the necessary experience just by being with the group for the WC.
Leaving club passion aside, Pato will be the starter in the WC. And Franco has done enuff to be considered a serious contender to be a starter.
One had to be left out. Lux will have his chance in the future. But, he will have to prove he is better than Carrizo ... he looks solid.

I haven't seen much of Ustari, but I feel Lux is not better than Pato, which says it all. So I hope Ustari will grow to the hopes of the nation, and become a hero like Goyco!:D

I would say Franco deserved to stay home. I don't understand Pekerman's insistince with him other than he coached him in the U-20 team. Lux deserved to go to the WC based on his present form (just as good if not better than Abbondanzieri & Franco)and how he's performed with the national team.
Is anyone going to argue that Abbondanzieri's performances with the national team (going back to the last Copa America and after) have earned him the status of the undisputed #1 GK for Argentina. I really don't think so.

El Pato undisputed? Not a chance. Has any other Argentina keeper really proven themselves to be that much better than Pato? IMHO no. Every keeper we have has some sort of question mark by their names. If you went on club form I'd say Ustari but not by much. What we do know is that Pato does excel in PK's and in the WC their is always the chance that a game can come down to them. Too late to bitch about it now, so we all might as well start convincing ourselves that Pato is the man and we'll stand behind him.

You're right,it is too late. Thanks to Peker. Not giving another keep a chance besides Lux and now hes not taking him.El Pato had his chances and didn't convince anyone and you witnessed it like the rest of the world.
As for lUX not going well there will always be a player that we will be upset about not being called to the NT to represent us in the upcoming WC.Lux picked it up a notch but wasn't to me a starter for the NT.Maybe as a backup.Zanetti is another, still don't understand why he is not going.

Comparing their performances with the national team I would say Lux has shown more even though he's played in less games than Abbondanzieri who has played in the Copa America, WC Qualifiers and international friendlies. Abbondanzieri has been given many opportunities to prove he can be Argentina's #1 GK and he has failed to do so.
I think Pekerman's mistake was sticking with Abbondanzieri all along instead of looking at other GK's who might've proven to be better options.

I've definitely got to agree with you on this point. El Pato was the first choice keeper from day one. Deep down inside we all knew it. For that reason, younger keepers should've received looks with the selection. I'd have loved to see Ustari, Barbosa and Franco get some time. Some coaches just have a thing for seasoned keepers and refuse to allow youth to disuade that. Two things are sure, one is that we wont have a keeper question in four years and two, we will still be bitching about the coach......unless it's Maradona:)

We all know that Pato hasn't played for the NT at the level he plays at Boca. For that same reason:
1) Pato will practice with the defense for a few weeks for the first time. All goalies need to work like a clock with their defense. This next few weeks and during the WC, the team is going to finally train and work as a team, unlike the 5 day reunion during WCQs.
2) The NT appointed a psychologist to talk with Pato in the last few weeks. Obviously to work on the anxiety side which has made him make a few mistakes that ARE UNLIKE HIM at Boca.
When Pato is confident and knows his defense, he becomes one of the main columns of his team ... as has been his experience with Boca ... winning every title he has played at club level. So far, it seems that Pato hasn't had the confidence to shout at his defenders and order them properly. It is necessary he gets that confidence with all the European based defenders.

La no convocatoria de Germán Lux sigue alimentando polémicas. El presidente de la AFA dijo que la lista es genuina de Pekerman.

He will goal keep the SudAmericana in the mean time. His departure to Mallorca will bring an end to a very hard year for Poroto. I wish him the best.

I wish him the best too. If all had gone according to plan, he would be Argentina's number one heading into the next round of qualification. As it stands now he needs to regain his mind and his form. Hopefully he can find them both in Spain.

I'm really sad that Lux is leaving, he's always been one of my favorite players. I wish him the best of luck in Mallorca, where he'll fortunately get to meet up with plenty of other Argentines, and 2 ex-River's like Perreyra and Maxi.
