Turtles can fly, a movie by Bahman Ghobadi, the first to be filmed in post invasion Iraq. Its about the Kurds and extremely sad, after watching the movie, were I to have a wife or a very serious GF, Id prolly break down and go adopt a Kurdish orphan. So, be warned.

"Offside" is about a group of Iranian girls who attempts to enter Tehran's Azadi Stadium dressed as boys in order to watch a big football match but some get caught and arrested. After the establishment of the Islamic Republic in Iran, women are not allowed to enter the stadiums.

Ceasefire (Atash bas) is an Iranian film about a conflict between a traditional male married to a liberated woman. Director Tahmineh Milani has dealt with the same theme in several previous movies, notably The Hidden Half, which garnered a Political Film Society nomination for best film on human rights in 2001. However, in Ceasefire she decides to use comedy to make the point that men have to adjust to the reality that modern women deserve respectful treatment. When the film begins, project engineer Sayeh (played by Mahnaz Afshara) seeks a divorce but by mistake knocks on the door of a psychiatrist (played by Attila Pesyani) instead of a lawyer. She is soon discovered in the psychiatrist’s office by her husband, Yousef (played by Mohammad Reza Golzar). Separately, the psychiatrist informs both that their problem is that they are not behaving maturely but instead are trying to act out their “inner child.” There are ample examples of misconduct, but the arguments between the two are highly intellectual, and they are always won by Sayeh. Alas, the results of the Iranian presidential election of 2005 may be a setback for Milani’s agenda of female liberation, but the comedy is as delightful as the battle of the sexes in such American films as Woman of the Year (1942). Don't hold your breath. Tried buying it in Iran and it was only movie screen camcorder quality. They said a good quality one won't be released.
PS I refuse to watch any film (Atash Bas) with that retard (Golzar) in it.

Ok, I got to see this movie 2 nights ago, I can see where all the humor is brought in, its funny. However I must add that you must have a good grasp of Prasi to get all the jokes. I certainly had difficulty getting everything.

Hey guys I love this thread and my favorite movie of all time is Egra Neshina! I got the cd when I was in Iran and my dad told me it is a classic. Remember the scene when Ali Akbar aka the Karate dude blows up? Or when the dad would smack the son when he put his foot on the kid's "pak nevis" because he was being a foozol lol. Oh man that movie is halarious. I even showed it to my American friends and they were cracking up. That is my all time favorite Iranian movie!

I saw Maxx and even though my Farsi is horrible (thank god for subtitles) I found it quite amusing. Specially liked the double-meaning song by the lady's son.
