let's hope a decent performance here can carry over into the Man City game on Sunday....

I agree. This would be a great jumping point for the rest of the season.

2-1 Rovers at halftime.
Salzburg went up, but a great free kick from Savage and a McCarthy goal have Blackburn on top.

geez...2-2...Salzburg equalized in stoppage time. Gutting, BUT still, we've got 2 away goals so it's ours for the taking when they come to Fortress Ewood. Good to see Savage do VERY well. Gamst was good and Ooijer showed some positives. Still, gave up WAY too many corners towards the end. Have to tighten it up a bit!

BUT we've got 2 away goals...
OK, we scored. That is more than positive. The fact that we scored twice is OUTSTANDING. I am tempted to say that, outside of our stud of a keeper, Savage has been our best player on the club. Anyone dispute that?
Also, it's nice to see a some what solid game out of Ooijer. I think that everyone on here knows that I haven't been his biggest supporter.
Poor Nelson. Has a pull in his butt, and now the surgery on his groin. Bad off season.

The equalizing goal was in the cards over those last few minutes, but I took far more positives from this game than negatives. Maybe the signs of life show that the best is yet to come.

Nelsen has obviously been our biggest off-season hit. Bellamy's departure hurts, sure, but Nelsen was the glue that kept our back-line together. It just doesn't work very well with Zurab/Todd/Ooijer partnering each other as not one of them is a leader (the jury's still out on Ooijer). I think we saw the prime example of Nelsen's absence from the Everton game and the Salzburg game where we dominated most of the game and then were getting absolutely pounded towards the end of the game. Hopefully this can get sorted because any more late equalizers/winners and I'm gonna develop an ulcer watching these boys...
But as blkbrnrvr said, I took more positives than negatives from the game. Gamst put free kick on target as did Savage and we see how well that worked out. Hopefully they'll bring that over to the Prem games and put the goalie under pressure during set-pieces again. Gamst and Ooijer showed their class playing against a Continental side, but they have GOT to get the England game down soon....
Roll on to Man City!
