Even the Herald's got an article today, Rich Thompson pens one titled Joseph gives Revs winning aggression (http://sports.bostonherald.com/soccer/view.bg?articleid=157307).

FDA in the Globe, Dempsey has one foot out the door (http://www.boston.com/sports/soccer/articles/2006/09/13/dempsey_has_one_foot_out_door/). Always a good thing to read when you're excited about a great potential matchup tonight.

yeah, particularly at the end:
The Revolution (8-8-10, 34 points) have six games remaining in the regular season, four at home. They have had excellent stretch runs, reaching the Eastern Conference championship game four successive seasons
yay almost winning something!

I personally always consider 2-2-2 and 3-3 to be excellent endings to the season!

we all knew, we just didn't want to hear it officially. ...and if the revs had been smart they would have come up with a deal that had the club loan him back for the rest of the mls season. instead, they burned away all the good will with all parties involved. and now we have a pissed of guy who gives a half a shit:(

but they know what they are doing

I love how in that article they listed 3 decent players who had been offered decent money by European clubs and they said "no no, we will keep him here in our league and let him earn shite money instead"

Some interesting quotes from Dempsey in there.

While you have to appreciate his honesty, it's also kind of a slap in the face to the fans and his teammates. I also don't think it's wise to emphatically say you're never coming back to MLS. He's made a name for himself here and if things don't work out in Europe, he may need MLS again at some point down the road....and based on his past experience it may one day be a better option for him than anything else out there.

Also interesting is what he says about the regular season meaning nothing. If you want an explanation of why the Revs have been so mediocre to date, that comment says plenty.

Again, I love the honesty. I also don't think he's all that bright. Let's enjoy him for these last few weeks of his career here, then it's time for him and the Revs to move on.

It seems to me that this is the best way to handle situations like this -- for all involved. Maybe the clubs they're negotiating with have said no that?

The only thing missimg is the note that playoff tickets go on sale as soon as the game ends tonight

I would think they would say no simply out of fear of injury while the player is spending the remainder of his time with the current club.

It's better than not reaching the conference championship four consecutive seasons.

Clint probably should learn to shut up. But I read the "I'm never coming back to MLS" comment more as personal motivation than anything else. A "I'm going to stick with it and not run back to the safety net" attitude. It would pretty easy for a player to go to Europe with the idea of returning to MLS if it doesn't pay off quickly. Be careful. You may get the Nanob Club members upset by seeing the cup half full. :D

I think you are probably right in this analysis (it just comes out so wrong)

you're point about the safety net of MLS and donovan.... Dempsey has made a few comments that seem to hint at LD. never nameing him, but seem to point that way a bit (when it coems to this european stuff). Anyone else starting to think he may have a disdain/disliking for LD. it's all come up like this (subsurface). I wonder if as he's joined the NT side and played in the WC, he's decided he does not like LD. Maybe I'm just making this up in my head, but makes you wonder. Maybe I'm just projecting my dislike for LD onto CD
