View Full Version : Big-Ass Flag

Heard a complaint(?) about this and wanted to throw it out and see how people feel about it.

The big-ass flag is great, but is it possible the we wait just a bit and don't run it up immediately after the goal is scored? If you're not in the first 1-2 rows, then you pretty much miss everything that happens on the field immediately after a goal. I suppose that normally it's no big deal, but sometimes there's cool stuff that people never get to see like Jose worshiping the scarf or VdB's leap into the Cauldron (or Josh's leap, what, 2 seasons ago?).

My biggest question is what would work better?

Maybe wait until the restart and pass it to the top of the Cauldron and back like we did before the Colorado game? (I realize there were some kinks with that, but maybe if it we get it established as a routine, it goes much smoother?)

Assuming we have enough people in the section, I think having it passed to the top of the secion and back down was really cool.

Yeah, as long as it is communicated to the people in the back to send it back down.

As for when to raise it, that's kind of a tough one. I know I was told that due to someof the celebrating in the front row this last game that there wasn't much help getting it started. I'm wondering about the option of trying to get a new confetti source (since our old one reitred ;)) and use that and the flags on poles for the initial celebration and then do the flag over the section just after that. This way, we would still have a nice visual impact for the TV cameras and then it would continue after for a bit.

That sounds like a good idea to me.

As far as trouble getting started immediately after a goal, I did not see any of that. My first thought after a goal is to grab the flag and send it up...can't speak for any others up front though.

Yeah, look at the pictures of Dave jumping into the crowd... the flag kinda looks like crap because the first two rows have dropped it.

Hey, is Ben trying to show a little love to Davy there? Maybe they need a room.

As for it looking drooped.....I thought it was going to roll up the section again as it was being pulled from my hands.....But I can see what you are referring to.

this is still one of my favorite pictures ever of the Cauldron and fits that exactly, except we didn't have the big flag to use afterwards.

I actually have that picture framed in my cubicle at work...so I agree that it looks great.

in regards to all this and being "newer" to the section. i think that this is great visual as well. multiple flags, means alot of people are involved with it. the confetti. then the big flag at a later moment, send it up like we did at the start of the last game, i think it worked well and if there's enough people it'll continue to work.
i agree that the flag right away means that those a few rows back will miss out and i dont think anyone wants that to happen anymore, so i'm all for the new change or whatever...

:D
i love the pics btw of saturday.
but that one up there, with all the flags and confetti, that's just beautiful...:)
how we gonna get the confetti back in it.
i'd be willing to do it but i dont think i have enough waste paper

OH and it SERIOUSLY looks like been needs a room
:)
were you trying to kiss him there hun...and was his hand pulling you to stay or pushing you to get off, cause that's a big hint if he's interested or not

OT, but kinda on,

whatever happened to using streamers?

streamers sounds like a good idea too.
i mean, we need to create a better visual for the other fans there and for pics...like i sd. i'd be more than happy to be able to start throwing things up in the air and towards the back

Actually, I went out to Hobby Lobby in Olathe (best place to get them, 3 rolls for $1) last week and purchase all the blue rolls they had (8) and 8 rolls of white. I then re-roll them into smaller individual rolls, 3 or 4 per big roll. Unfortunately, with everything that was going on last week I completely forgot about them and they are still in my desk at home. I will get them re-rolled for the 9/30 game.

i'd be more than willing to get some too. or will that be too much?
hell, cheap streamers, i can afford:)and i reckon there's a hobby lobby somewhere up here in the ghetto i call home

For the confetti, all we need to do is chip in for a cross-cut shredder. Our office generates enough waste paper to choke a small elephant.

No wonder Kerry seems so despondent. :D

I have a ton of big rolls of streamers as well. I'll make sure to make smaller rolls from them and bring them to the next game.

I looked him square in the eye and said "Go put this game away. We need it." Then he goes and scores two minutes later, and another one after that.

No kidding.

That is not what you told me. You told me, "Score another goal and I love you long time DA!"
