Twellman, Revolution not giving up on goals (http://www.boston.com/sports/soccer/articles/2006/09/12/twellman_revolution_havent_given_up_on_goals/), FDA, Globe
``I don't see any reason why we won't [finish strong]," Nicol said. ``But if we think we will automatically finish strong, we'll be in trouble."

I really am getting annoyed with this way of looking at history:
In the last six games of the last four seasons, the Revolution have averaged 2.0 points per game, a pace that would clinch a playoff berth this season.
Talk about working the stats the way you want to. Usually when looking at historical success, you should be giving more credence to the more recent times than the historical. Otherwise why not just say "Hey, over the first 10 years, we generally sucked at the end of the season."
The last two years, we're averaging less than 1.5 points per game. That's more recent, let's not include stats from four years ago to make our numbers sound better.

Revs site's game preview (http://www.revolutionsoccer.net/news/index.cfm?ac=latestnewsdetail&pid=21070&pcid=115)
And you knew you'd see it ...
In each of the last four seasons, the Revolution has closed the regular season on fire and headed into the playoffs surging
No comment about Abundis yet either.

Quote:
We continue to make chances," Revolution coach Steve Nicol said. ``If we continue to make them, we'll get goals. You have to keep believing. It's one of those idiosyncracies of soccer.
``Not everything has an answer, and this is one of those things that doesn't have an answer. If they are going in, they are going in, and if they aren't going in, they aren't going in.
``[Twellman] is going through one of those periods strikers go through when it just doesn't happen. The only way to get through it is to keep working and stay level-headed. If he continues like he is, I see no problem with it; he'll score goals."
End Quote:
For me this says it all and has been the story of this entire season. Ang 1.11 goals per game :( . People keep looking to find something or someone to blame but the answer is simply---sometime when you create the chances they just don't go in. The only real question for me at this point: Will they find the touch and go on a goal scoring binge?

Maybe we could get Reis to dump some Spanish Fly in front of the goal mouth to improve the Revolution's chances of scoring...
... then again, the last thing I want to see is Slyde humping the goalpost.

Doc, although I agree with you that with even average finishing our record would be a whole lot better (and people a whole lot happier), I don't think it is realistic to chock up the whole season to bad luck alone. Chances don't just go in on their own, someone has to put them in and if that someone can't, the coach needs to find someone else who can. While Twellman has made his mark as the best finisher in US soccer, and only a fool would bet against him regaining that skill, at this point in the season his loss of form is killing us and on a deeper team he would be sitting.
Among other things...
Some interesting stats regarding our coach's love of subs...
Through 26 games...
Overall record: 8-10-8 (WDL)
Using 1 Sub: 2-8-3
Using 2 Subs: 2-2-4
Using 3 Subs: 4-0-1
Using 3 Subs, and playing at Gillette: 3-0-0
Best time for Revs to play:
When temps are 50-59: 3-0-0
Worst Time For Revs To Play:
Temps Over 80: 1-6-3 (WDL)
When Revs are On The WB they are 1-2-6 (WDL)
When the Revs are on ESPN2: 3-0-0
When on FSN: 4-8-1
Now them's the important things to know!
