What do you all think is the reason for the revs having the 2nd lowest attendance in all mls, and would it be ameliorated by a stadium in the boston area?

Same reason the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in baseball or the Clevland Browns in football have lower attendances, nobody wants to see a bad team play. Though I would kill for their attendances:p

No, that's not it.
It's a bush league atmosphere with half the stadium closed off.
Geoff Aunger, Darren Sawatzky, et al, used to regularly draw 20K crowds in the old Foxboro.
The team needs a SSS, and probably new ownership to get the attendance back up where it should be.

1) Poor team results
2) Boring game plan (defense does not sell tickets)
3) Sterile atmosphere of the Morgue = no fun
A SSS would help but why would Kraft spend millions on that when he has the morgue?

Our only hope is that MLS bails us out and either forces Kraft to pay for one, or pays for one themselves.
Pie in the sky - someone buys the Revs who actually cares about the sport and the team (and the fans!!@!@~>?~?!?!@?!~)

Boring MLS product -- i.e. too many dull teams with zero star power
A stale team made up of:
a. Too many players who are 'comfortable' (i.e. not being pushed by players capable of taking their jobs)
b. Too many players more interested in their next contract than winning matches
c. No depth
d. A coach who's approach has gotten as stale as his team.
The Red Sox and Patriots
Not enough soccer fans
The Revs are in the entertainment business. As such the product needs to be entertaining. If the opponents have no star power --there better at least be some passionate soccer going on.
I love soccer and I can't get excited about going to see the Revs vs. Columbus Crew, KC Wizards, Chicago Fire, Real Salt Lake etc.
DC United, LA, Chivas and now probably the Red Bulls, yes. Those other teams and the home squad the way they're currently playing? No way.

I found myself missing the old Foxboro the other day. I was also reminiscing about the 2002 final. The experience is so much more fun when there is a real crowd. The current experience is like watching television, which I can do at home for free.
Marketing.
Not getting burried by mainstream TV media, (Ch's 4,5 & 7).
Marketing.
Better game atmosphere, ie: SSS.
Marketing.
Winning.

Ding ding ding.... marketing marketing marketing.
Buried = ignored. Or worse, scorned, though it's historically worse on radio sports talk shows.
I occasionally use the analogy that Kraft has two auto dealerships, sharing the same location. One sells Hummers and Rolls Royces, the other sells Jeeps and Geos, but one of them gets almost the entire advertising budget and media reviews.

Except that the media doesn't review car dealerships.
The lack of marketing, meanwhile, is a factor, but it's not as big as it might seem. There are tens, even hundreds of thousands of patrons who have attended Revolution matches at Gillette Stadium, who have given this team and this "product" a chance. The fact that attendance has declined so severely suggests that, above all else, people aren't enjoying themselves enough to make another visit or become regulars -- despite the fact that the team is coming off its best season yet. The team has fallen into a netherworld of sorts -- the base of devoted supporters isn't big enough to support crowds of 15-20K, nor has the club successfully fashioned itself as "a good take" for family entertainment, thus failing to draw substantial numbers of people more concerned about a fun night out than the final score.

I agree. When they closed off half of the stadium i stopped going to games. It's an insult to the fans and decreases atmosphere.

I watched a little bit of tonights game and it didn't
seem like a bad crowd.
I can't believe the excuses of the atmosphere
at Gillete. You guy's are lucky to have a team
to watch. I wouldn't care if the Revolution lost
every game,I would still be at every home game
because I love the sport.
It annoy's me when i hear people blame the
stadium. The Stadium's too big, half of the stadium
is closed off. At least you have a team to support.

Hey man, the people on this board are at all the games period. But the fact is that most people aren't as committed to soccer as BS posters :| . Thus, a smaller stadium would make for a better atmosphere, attracting more casual fans and maybe turning some of them into rabid fans like us. ^^

Well, the two biggest crowds this year were the DC game and the Celtic game. They both were a little over 16,000. When you approach that number with the far side covered, the atmosphere gets a lot better.
There was a lot of empty space for the Celtic game and the stadium looked pretty empty even with the good participation from both club's supporters.
9-10k with half the stadium closed off looks pretty silly. If they opened up the entire stadium, it would look empty.
Personally, I think they should cover up the top 10 rows of the lower bowl. Throw some adds on the tarps. It would concentrate the fans more and maybe create a better stadium buzz. They would need a few more ushers and open another set of restrooms, so the odds of them doing this are low.

This is a very good suggestion - do this around the whole lower bowl and open up the whole stadium. Create the same 20,000 max they allow this way would be way better.
And maybe not too many adds on all the banners, because then if they ever wanted to open the attendance, they just pull back some of the tarps. (That way the sponsors wouldn't get mad)
It is a really good suggestion - any way for someone for Riders to get this into the Revs FO hands and get a response?

I'm sure they have thought about this since Ocean Spray has a huge won on the other side of the stadium at half field.
