Can I close my AOL email account? Can I still use AIM if I close my email account?
Thanks

If you have broadband, why do you need to close it? Isn't it free now?

I read somewhere, that they'll keep charging broadband customers unless they specifically call AOL and ask to have their account for Free, kinda crazy huh?

I've never had AOL, but from what i've heard, good luck. I've heard hellish stories about AOL customers trying to cancel. (CNN On Demand has a story where some guy was on the phone for 20+ minutes trying to cancel, only getting a very unprofessional response from the customer service rep.)
AIM can be downloaded for free by anyone, regardless of their ISP, but you'd be better off with a program like Adium (Mac), Trillian (PC), middle_man (PC), or even MirandaIM. These programs connect to AIM servers, allowing you to chat through AIM without using their software. The first two connect to other clients such as MSN, Yahoo, ICQ, IRC, Rendezvous, etc.
The new AIM is full of ads and other crap-ware. I wouldn't touch it.
