New England: The Revs boast one of the league's most talented rosters but inconsistent form and a recent rash of injuries have hit at a bad time. Midfielder Shalrie Joseph is out and his absence could jeopardize New England's chances, especially considering he may not be available for Saturday's key showdown against the Red Bulls. Two matches against East-leading D.C. United will make the Revs task tougher.

Is Joseph injured or something?

Could he be confusing Joseph having sat out the last game for card points with an injury. It's not like Ives to get his facts confused. Sure hope he's wrong. We NEED Joseph if we want to get points Saturday.

According to the Spanish articles, he has already signed a contract through December with an option for another 2 years.

Which is a nice way of saying unless he's absolutely stellar, he's waived at Thanksgiving.

Exactly....they probably gave him a decent chunk of change for the remainder of the year then will say adios

If he doesn't work out. Once again, win win situation. Revs make these deals around this time. I like these deals.

I'd like 'em better if we had a track record that had more hits than misses, but I'll keep an open mind here and give the guy a chance. When all you need is one weird-ass goal from some guy who otherwise wouldn't find the back of the net with a GPS locator to get you a trophy, what the hell.

This year may be different if we have a few players going to europe.
I'm not saying this won't happen, but the circumstances are a little different for him than they were for Phillips.

keep in mind, the bar is lower this year. so if he's spectacular, he might really only be average and on the flip side, if he sucks, than he's of equal value to the rest of the losers:o

I'd like it better if the Revs bring some youthful guys in Feb that can help the team all year long rather than a "mercenary signing" for short term.
If this guys turns out to be a good player for that Revs thats great but the bottom line is the Revs just don't seem to know how the game is played when it comes to finding players.

That's true. Looking ahead and considering what we know/infer about whose contract is up, who wants out, who'll get pulled for Toronto, etc. it's obvious that the post-season this year will not be the same as the "lose some guys, draft a couple more" that we've seen in recent past years.

First Soccer Doc, then me. This is getting bad, real bad.
Where do I start?!
``Any team is going to miss the benefits of his ability and stature," said Revolution coach Steve Nicol. ``The guys who played didn't do badly, but we had so many positional changes."
Didn't play badly!? What game were you watching, Stevie. So many positional changes? Who's fault is that?! If the bench had any depth you could have just put your next best DM on the field and been done with it. Instead you have to shuffle 4 players to cover the hole left by 1 missing guy.
``He obviously brings what he brings," Nicol said.
What the hell does that mean?! Are you running for Mayor of Hopkinton?!
It's not like he has been hanging back because he has [suspension] points hanging over him.
Thousands of fans watching the games clearly disagree. If he hasn't been holding back then we have bigger problems because Joseph's game has not been 100% lately/
``Teams are not slicing us open
This is exactly what Columbus did. With far fewer 'chances' they put more shots on goal and scored with 3 of them.
We made four positional changes in this game
Another in a long line of weak excuses. Right up there with bad referees, getting ripped off 5 seconds, a tough schedule...
and we had 21 chances on goal, so we can't be that far away."
This is typical Nicol speak. Stay the course, keep 'creating chances' and a miracle will occur that will save our collective asses.
Sorry Stevie, even Alladin only got to rub the lamp 3 times.

if you take "rubbing the lamp" as a euphamism, it would certainly explain a reason why he's too busy to coach this team properly...

T who'll get pulled for Toronto, etc.
That btw is still an open question. We know there will be an expansion draft but as far as I know the "foreign player rule" for TFC has yet been posted. Americans will be SI's to them but from what I've gotten from my exchanges with some of their fans it looks like they will have "Extra Foreign Slots" for US Nationals. I think they will try to fill the roster with as many Canadians as possible and will do a real rape of the three Canadian D1 teams as well as try to get some of the players they have in Europe back home to Canada. FWIW, I doubt we will lose much in the draft.

In all fairness Coach Barry, Coach Nicols statement is a true. In only four games have we played poor defensively and given up a lot of goals. In all the others we have given up less than a goal a game. Out problem this season for the most part hasn't been defensive breakdowns----it's been not putting away our chances. WE ARE JUST NOT SCORING ENOUGH GOALS TO WIN GAMES. The reason we have so many ties is we hold the other teams but just are not putting away our chances.

FWIW, I doubt we will lose much in the draft. In true Montreal vs. Toronto fashion, the Impact have signed most of their better players through next year and beyond, and would certainly demand a transfer fee if Trona ever tried to poach any of the guys they think can play in MLS.
No doubt they'd love to have the 3 Canuckleheads from Houston, but Onstead seems to be the only one they might be able to get, but supposedly there is another Canadian GK who they have their eye on. DeRo would only go for an allocation and Serioux only would agree to a trade to Red Bull :D
There are a bunch of Canadians playing in places like Norway and Sweden, and most of them make better than MLS money. Some might want to come home, but then again, money talks and you-know-what walks. I can't imagine any of these guys willing to work for 28,000 loonies a year. As part of a US league, they might pay their players in US$ like the Blue Jays do.
