Because he's a **********....
I kid, it seems like he's just riding out the season on the bare minimum amount of work, just like Taylor has since around this time last year.

So you think Taylor started "riding out" the 2005 season last september?
Anyway, Clint looked out of place out there. He wasn't alone. I have no idea what kind of system we were playing on saturday, because it really looked like we didn't have one.
He made one sensational move in the box which could have turned the game around if it didn't hit the crossbar. Other than that, he looked like a player who had only played twice in five weeks.

it's nicols formation and game plan. not only does it not work, he doesn't change it so that next week opponents can find new and better ways to rip apart his piss poor system.
c'mon, where is the dreaded vote of confidence that's long over due so we know that he's only 1 more loss from getting canned. it's gotta be coming.

I hope it's coming. He's not only played one of his best players out of position the whole season, he doesn't seem to have inspired any of the players to get out of this funk. And I blame the work he DIDN'T do in the off season. A lot of the teams got better, we didn't; we stayed the same. It now shows and the players are understandably frustrated. That's when it's up to the coach to get his players going again. I haven't seen that happen

Football Manager anyone?:p
Watch us get a new coach and win like 10-0 against D.C. United

Wow watching that made me feel really bad about this season. Why can't we finish like that just once in a game... I feel kinda depressed and saddened... and seeing Taylor in a USMNT jersey too... :(

Colin,
That was a great compilation of Clint as we know him. I just don't know what has happened to the fire in the belly he had for his game and his team. Some kind of ROT has most definetely set in with the guys on this team and it saddens me to see what has happened to my beloved Revs as a result. As the third goal went into the net last Saturday night, I came so close to walking out of the stadium on my team.
What the reason for this lack of commitment from the team is unknown to us fans but I hope they sort it out pretty soon or the ever- dwindling support will become a stampede.

I notice the wing play is much better in that video than it was in the Columbus game. Those crosses were actually accurate.

So that's what it's like to score goals. It's been a while.

Dempsey is half assing it because he's pissed at MLS for rejecting his European offer. Hes being a little bitch about it.

I don't think so. I think Dempsey's problem is that he doesn't actually have a position. Think about it some.
He should be a Dmid, but doesn't like defense.
He could do well outwide, but again only if he doesn't have to track back.
He lacks the speed to be a dangerous striker.
He lacks the playmaking skills for attacking mid.
He lacks the ball control skill (and work ethic) for target forward.
From what I've seen, Dempsey is a big dominant aggressive player, who wants the ball, and wants to make something happen. Well that's fine for six on six, or against weak opposition, or late in games when everything breaks down, but it kills team play when your best player is more interested in getting the ball at his feet than fulfilling the role his position requires. Because of his size and skill, Nicol has twisted this team to get Dempsey on the field. It would have been much better for both Dempsey and the Revs, if Dempsey had had to compete for a position, rather than just a place in the starting eleven.

That would have to apply to Joey and Riley first...

I don't think Dempsey is half-assing it, but I wouldn't be surprised if he's somewhat distracted by MLS's decision to retroactively suspend him (twice), as well as their actions relative to Clint's overseas ambitions.
Can't say I've been at all optimistic about the Revs of late, but I have this feeling that Clint's going to have a big game this Saturday.

Actually if you're talking about his goal, I think that's exactly what IW was saying because he didn't do all those things he's doing now. It was a one touch laser of a shot, no dribbling required.
I know personally I'd like to see him not be convinced he needs to dribble through all 10 people everytime he touches the ball.

I'm talking about the kid having the ability/capability. IW was basically saying this kid doesn't have a position on the field because of a list of shortcommings that make him less than ideal.
I disagree with that this kid doens't have the tools. does he need focus, sharpness and maturity? sure.
But his list of defiicnesies make you think that you are talking about a kid on franchino's level. dempsey has clearly shown he can perform at the highest level.

Clint has dealt with a lot of things this year, that we would be a bit over optimistic to think aren't affecting him in one way or another - no matter how much of an honest effort he continues put forth on a regular basis. Even the best professionals are human. I am not referring to any non-public information: the death of a friend and mentor, going to WC, the US' terrible showing there (and the associated strife amongst the team that had to cause), his best buddy EJ not getting much of a show there, playing d-mid, a-mid, right mid and forward, getting suspended at the beginning of the year by his coach, etc., etc. He's young and he's strong, he'll get through it, but to expect no impact is a bit much.
OTOH, I would be interested to know, and I think this conversation has been had before, what is the difference in Clint's scoring rate between when he is playing forward vs. when he is midfield? There was some sense a bit ago that he is better off picking his spots to come forward and strike. While he does have moves that help breakdown defenses, he seems to be more successful at finding seams to run into. The flip side of that, of course, is that the sick turn around flip in the box against C-bus that he hit off the cross bar is the kind of move you want from a forward.
