Hi everyone,
I was very happy with the BL coverage on ProSiebenSat1Welt (German channel on DishTV) last season.
They changed the format this year, some things for the better: three live days, Fri, Sat and Sun. Also interviews at halftime and right after the live action the highlight show of the day. BUT they also decided to show the "Konferenz" every Saturday and Sunday instead of a full match. This means every time there's a goal in one match they go to that stadium right away ... to show you the celebrating players, you hardly ever see a goal, nor the preceding action live.
This "Konferenz" originates from the German radio coverage of old times - and it made sense then - because you couldn't see the action anyway (it's radio), it was o.k. if someone just described the goal etc ...
I know P7S1 does this because they don't want Gladbach, Nürnberg and Aachen fans to write all the time complaing about the constant FC Bayern coverage, but instead offer the same bad product to all fans. (I now only watch GolTV's live match and then switch back to P7S1 for the highlights and interviews after the match)
What is your take on this?
Is there ANYONE out there who LIKES the "Konferenz" and prefers it to a whole live match?

I love the Konferenz! I guess thats just a german thing... :D
Alltough whenever my team plays Im definitely only watching that one game... but then Im usually in the stadium anyways...
But seriously, rather than seeing just the "top-game" (honestly I dont really giva a *** about the top teams anyways) I just preferr seeing all the goals and all important scenes...

Hi, i don't know the station you mean,
but i can say something about "BL Koferenz",
because the channels Premiere (last season) and now Arena
offer the same format in Germany.
The quality of a Konferenz depends on the quality of the commentators
and the direction, who change between the matches.
IMHO the Konferenz on Arena is much more hectical than
the one at Premiere in the last seasons.
But to be honest, this is no surprise, because you need an experienced team to make a good Konferenz.
So, i give the people at Arena some time.
If i were you, i would do the same with P7S1.
I am sure, they will improve the quality of the show.
To your question:
Same as Doc, when Werder plays i want to see Werder,
but i also like a quality Konferenz. :)

The Konferenz is the worst thing to happen to football since Roman Abramovich. I've gone to bars to watch the football and gone home minutes later upon learning that they are showing the Konferenz. It's garbage.
You see lots of goal celebrtions, but what you don't see is the build up to the goals. You get no feeling for any of the games. It also cheapens the game by asserting that the only thing that matters is goals (or rather celebrating goals).
I would rather watch one game in its entirety than see bits from several games without being able to watch any one of them properly. What's wrong with showing a game and then running highlights of the others? The Konferenz is basically just real time highlights. It's not 'live football'.

I only "like" the "Konferenz" if there is three or four matches on I want to see at the same time.
Even then, I'd rather just watch the one I want to see the most and channel surf to the others as I did the last Bundesliga weekend with Stuttgart v. BVB, Bayern v. FCN and Leverkusen v. Wolfsburg.
I'm sorry you guys in the USA can't do that, but I know your pain. I just lived there for three years and I'm only here in Germany again for three to five years, so I know I'll be back in your shoes again soon.
I think the "Konferenz" is great on radio, but shit for TV. I agree with you guys who say you want to see the buildup to the goals.
I'd suggest you guys get together and bombard Pro7Sat1 and let them know that you'd rather see full matches and a highlights show rather than the "Konferenz".
However, with GolTV now being the standard bearer for the Bundesliga in the USA, maybe there are contractual issues preventing Pro7Sat1 from showing full matches? Maybe the "Konferenz" is all they are allowed to show?

I've always been surprised (and a bit nervous that it could end soon) that P7S1 can show BL at the same time as GolTV. But no, they replied to me once last week and said that they thought the Konferenz was the best way to show the games, so it's their choice, not contractual obligation ...
Feel free to email them, they might react to that kind of feedback:

Great info! Thanks! I'm sure the other guys can use that.

Here, here! Konferenz football is for the ADD generation.
A match is a story, a 90-minute narrative. If I miss more than the first five minutes of a match, I refuse to watch it, because I feel that I've missed something, that I won't understand something that happens later on.
Mining the match for the goals cheapens the sport. Watching ESPN's coverage of basketball, for example, you'd think that the sport was all about slam dunks. Or that baseball's all about home runs.
Whoever came up with the Konferenz concept for television is certainly not a fan of the sport.

I emailed them as suggested and this was their reply:

You know, that's a good point. They are damned if they do and damned if they don't.
If they show just a "Top Spiel", you do get people complaining that they either never see their club or they get tired of seeing Bayern, Bremen, Schalke, Leverkusen or Hertha every weekend.
I can't blame them now.
