Manchester United is actually #8?

I was expecting them to be at the bottom along with Arsenal and Chelsea, who are already there.

Interesting poll and results.

I think Villa are at the bottom simply because nobody thought of them when the question was posed.

While United are the team you love to hate, entertainment value. Staring the antics of SAF and wondering what stupid thing Rooney is going to do or say next.

People are tired of the Arse and 'Whining (I didn't see it) Wenger' and seeing Henry wagging his finger at the refs every time he runs offside.

As for Chel$ki, well the fans aren't that dumb. They're seeing the same as us. A billionaire throwing money at the best players available and a mediocre manager who tries to mold them into a team (Hey if he doesn't work out bench him, we'll just buy someone else.) until he finds a combination that works. Then he struts around like Mussolini did when he got the trains to run on time.

There are a lot of good managers in the Prem. who do wonders with a 'lot' smaller budgets and get a 'lot' more respect for it.

Stevie got it right when talking of Liverpool and attitude.

Was it only fans of Premiership clubs that were polled? I'm suprised more people didn't choose Arsenal.

What would be your answer to the question?

Personally, I don't want to see any other team do well.

From what I tend to gather, Arsenal has a pretty bad stigma amongst the English built up over time. Where as most Americans[or other neutrals] like them more due to only knowing the recent memories of 97-06, where they played attractive football.

I would have picked Villa or West Ham. Kind of suprised me that Villa was at the bottom with the likes of Chelsea.

The fact that they have ZERO British players in their first team probably doesn't help.

Villa probably did poorly because they were absolutely dreadful to watch last year under pig face Oleary.

Doing well in these polls are always a double-edged sword. On one hand it can mean that your team is likeable and plays attractive football. On the other hand it can also mean that fans of rival teams don't see you as a massive threat, or - worse - actually feel sorry for you.

While the reasons for me liking Liverpool are overwhelmingly the former (in addition to not being as import-oriented as some of the bigger teams) I have to confess that at least part of the reason is that unlike the other big three teams, they haven't had a long period of dominance in recent history. If this was (say) 1986 rather than 2006, to be honest I would probably be less charitable towards them.

Or are you just trolling? "I would probably be less charitable towards them." Do you even recognize what board you're posting on.

You've probably probably described here how Newcastle is in 4th spot though. "it can also mean that fans of rival teams don't see you as a massive threat, or - worse - actually feel sorry for you."

Bah, settle down and stop being so defensive. I was talking generally... like anyone would actually be sorry for Liverpool with their trophy cabinet.

Maybe I phrased it badly, but my point was just that teams tend to be less liked by rival fans when they're on top for long periods. I'm saying that Liverpool's most recent turn at the top in the cycle of dominance being longer past than the others could be a factor in Liverpool being significantly more well-liked than the other Big Four teams. It's not just about who plays the most attractive football - not that I think LFC don't also do that, as you'd have noticed if you'd read my post properly. If Liverpool continue their rapid improvement of recent seasons and are on top again, I'd expect the fondness with which rival fans view them to decline - as it should. Stop reading insults where none exist.

Also, wrong Newcastle United...

you leave caesar alone- hes feeling a bit crabby at the moment- newcastle havent won a game yet out of two (in the A-League!!!!!), so he's feeling a bit down.

plus the Aussie forum has been overrun with Sydney and Melbourne fans, who pretend no other team exist..... ;)

If I weren't a Liverpool fan, they would be my second favorite. :)

Yeah, I think Liverpool is probably my second favorite (as of this moment, anyway... don't watch them enough to say for sure!), but I don't know if my first team counts, since they aren't in the Premiership (now). ;)

But I think that's a pretty interesting poll. Kind of a neat thing to think about!

A little slow today!

Damn the Sydney and Melbourne fans anyway, don't they have anything interesting on their own boards.

I wonder if we should find out who eveyone's second favourite team who's a Liverpool fan.

(If only they'd get promoted again I'd say the Tractor Boys from Ipswich Town) :(

i, too, was a bandwagon Town fan.

i have a buddy who's a Hammers fan -- he's from the area. i couldn't give him any stick if i allowed affection for WHU to creep in.

i loved reading Fever Pitch, and i don't actually hate the Arsenal, but i think there's too much inherent rivalry for European slots between the Arsenal and Liverpool for me to fancy them as second best. and since Bergkamp has retired, the gild is off the lily, to a great extent.

'Arry Redknapp is such a wonderful character. i'm really hoping he can turn Pompey around and keep them in the thick, but Portsmouth will never be an emotional draw for me.

don't worry...i shan't go thru all the teams. i think maybe there's a soft spot in me heart for Blackburn Rovers, tempered slightly because they are managed by a former ManU player. but there was the spell with King Kenny at the helm, so i can reflect on that.

Ahhh, no bandwagon here- I have no choice on the matter- my family is from there, so I have to have some affection for them!!!

They can blame where i live in Sydney and Craig Johnston for making me a Reds fan!!

I also have a soft spot for Blackburn, Boro or any team with Aussies in it. :)

I've a soft spot for Wigan. I saw them about four years ago in the old second (or really third) division beat Tranmere. MiniLB and I were in Liverpool to see LFC play Chelsea but that game was a Sunday game. We had already been to the LFC Museum tour and the Magical Mystery Tour. I looked around for a game in the Northwest on Saturday but everyone was away or playing on Sunday. So we took a train from Lime Street to Wigan. When we got there we found a really modern facility with people in the ticket office and stands who were friendly and genuinely shocked to find a Yank and his son at their football game. We had a good time and Wigan won. So I've kind of followed them up the ladder ever since. I also like Paul Jewell, who as most of you know is an academy graduate from LFC.
