That what I had heard. Curious as to the specifics of the match. I have seen VCU play at UVa and they seemed to be fiarly typical college match players.

Just for ease of discussion, I clipped this from "uncgfan" in the college forum.
VCU up 3-1 with 13:00ish to play. I'll post some things from the Play by Play that should give you an idea of what happened, and I am not going to comment at all on the match. Some referees should be fired immediately after this contest (but that won't happen). I watched this on VCUs online site (although it went out a few times).
1st Period
[08:47] Yellow card on UNCG David Grayson.
[31:01] Yellow card on UNCG D.J. McCurry.
[32:06] Yellow card on UNCG Scott Jones.
[43:02] Yellow card on UNCG David Worthen.
[43:02] Red card on UNCG Henning Jonasson.
2nd Period
UNCG assistant coach Scott Brittsan given yellow card at halftime
[45:00] Yellow card on UNCG TEAM.
UNCG asst. coach Justin Maullin received red card at halftime
[45:00] Red card on UNCG TEAM.

I did not see this match, which apparently was called with 13 and change remaining on the clock, but holy cow!
Either UNCG is an out-of-control team or the referee simply had no clue.
And can someone please tell me what happens when you call a TEAM Red Card?

It would appear to be a "bench" card for something said by someone that the crew could not identify. Here is a snippet from a source that I have known online for a while and has proven to be a fiar judge of isues.
