After yesterday's transfer deadline signings, (possibly the most sensational in Premiership history) the premiership is in my opinion the best in the World!

Tevez and Mascherano to West Ham - West Ham are right up there now with a very very good team.
Arsenal get Gallas from Chelsea in swap for Cole both clubs strengthening areas of the team where weakest (making both teams stronger) and Arsenal sign Baptista from Real.
Manchester City bring in DaMarcus Beasley from PSV.
Tottenham finally sign Chimbonda and Malbranque.
Wigan sign Todorov from Portsmouth who have signed so many already this season I lost count, including Andy Cole from Manchester City.
Rossi to Newcastle from Man United.
Not forgetting Woodgate and Huth to Middlesboro... what a central defence pairing that will be!
Many more too many to name.

The way I see it many premiership teams are stronger today and so many are capable of a top 6 finish. This could be the most exciting year for the premiership yet! Good luck to all of them. :)

Huth transfer fell through even though terms were agreed. Once Gallas went they didn't want to lose another in that position.

Thanks for that.....oops didn't realise, but it makes sense. Some great signings have happened this week though, don't you agree?

Turns out Huth transfer did indeed go through. It seems Chelsea had it sitting there just in case Gallas didn't leave but it seems to have backfired as Boro (rightly so) insisted the paperwork had been completed by midnight.

Today I'm going to need to take some time to digest all the moves. I can't recall a more crazy final transfer day, but being a West Ham fan that is to be expected...

Manchester City bring in DaMarcus Beasley from PSV.

This signing alone makes the Premiership the best league in the world :p

... Before it was the Dutch Eredivisie .. but now it's the Premiership - Manchester City will surely win back to back titles now!

Prediction: Tevez and Mascherano will get west ham into european competiion next year. They were a huge pickup.

With so many exciting players playing for different teams I think it will be harder to predict games and the top 4 place finishes.

Who would finish in top 4 from these:
Chelsea
Man Utd
Arsenal
Liverpool
West Ham
Tottenham
Outside chance for Middlesboro, Portsmouth as a result of the signings these two have made.

Take Middlesboro for example beating Chelsea before signing Woodgate and Huth and yet losing to Portsmouth 4-0. Some strange results will happen this season.

You are confusing some good signings with a good team. Two injuries and West Ham are out of your top 4 and back to the middle of the table. Not to mention managers, tactics, and training. Just cause you sign a few players doesnt mean you are good.

Top 4 will be Chelski, Manure, Arsenal, and Liverpool. No surprise this season.

Not to be interrupting!
but out of all the leagues, La liga is way more competitive than last year!
I think is defenetly the most competitive, league on earth!

Just check, some of these squads, they are sick (under achivers are Levante, they got MeyongZe, the best striker in the portuguese league last year. ) They got some quality names!

La liga looks, pretty Damm, Strong! I dont think its ever been so strong in its history before! The 10 teams 'below' Man Utd and Chelsea have just as strong squads (if not better) and just as big name players (if not bigger) than the 10 teams you named. The teams being:

Arsenal
Liverpool
Spurs
Newcastle
Middlesbrough
Portsmouth
Bolton
Everton
West Ham
Aston Villa

Anyway i think that there isn't much difference between the Premiership and La Liga. Both great leagues to watch.

How are we comparing leagues?

Numbers of well-known players? Hard to quantify.

Competition within the league? I think EPL.

Success in Europe? La Liga, Serie A, then EPL

http://sathanasias.bravepages.com/f-teams/ft-palmare-all.html

It doesn't include last seasons (2 trophies for Spain to tie England), but given that England has had fewer seasons in Europe than the other two (Heysel ban, lack of early participation) then England clearly comes out on top.

...but given that England has had fewer seasons in Europe than the other two...

Just to clarify that point, before last season England had had 249 entrants into European competition, Spain and Italy 284.

I was only looking at Champion Cup/Champions League. I didnt want to include UEFA Cup, Intertoto, or any other small tournament.

Good point on the number of teams entered.

The Epl has reinforced it self quite well!
but indeed La Liga, looks much more stronger! Comparing player, by player its almost no question The Spanish, have got the advantage! Plus you also have to include that many of the players are heavily underated, while many players in the Premier are heavily overated!

*yawn*

You can count the number of top class defenders in La Liga on one hand and that's being generous. Lax attitude to the defensive side of the game is what makes La Liga the attractive and attacking friendly thing it is today. Of course, that also means it is easier for players to perform in given the freedom they get. It's little wonder that when a top side bothers to pay attention to the defensive side of the game, like the great Valencia sides of old, then they dominate.

Also, before the ban, an English team had won the European Cup 7 times in 8 years (4 for Liverpool, 2 for Forest, and 1 for Villa).
