I have never seen a Football-game, but I'm wondering if it happens that the players sometimes start to fight each other like in ice-hockey and mor rarely, soccer?

While not as much as in hockey, fights happen in football as often as they do every other sport.

However, since most of the time at least one of the people involved is smart enough to leave his helmet on, these fights are usually short lived.

Yes, what AFL said. It's an exercise in futility to fight while decked in helmets, so things never get too escalated. And unlike hockey, fighting is met with a game ejection (rather than a 5 minute penalty), which can often be crucial to the outcome of the game.

The biggest one to happen recently was last season before the opening Monday night game of the season between Atlanta and Philadelphia before the game during warmups.

Pushing and shoving in between plays is common though. Things rarely escalate beyond that. Usually if there is a minor scuffle, a team may be penalized.

Thanks for the answers

So you only get 5 minutes for fist-to-fist fight in the NHL? Here the players has to leave for the rest of the game...

Yup. If players are going to get mad they just take it out onto the field anyways.

I just happened to be looking football fights.

Carolina-Clemson Brawl back in 2004.

I was looking at the Sanders-Rison fight back in 1994, but could not find the link. Anyway, football is not liked hockey. They do not fight much. It has to do with taking the agression out of the players during the play. The smart players just broke it off....

BTW, hockey is a crazy sport. I do not give a shit about NHL fights.... it is just so common that it does not matter if there is a fight. Sometimes, I felt it was staged.... not really staged, but they just did it for the hell of it. It was nothing to do with anger, passion or whatever.
