The offer makes sense because the Gravesen deal appears to be falling through. A fan tried to put a scarf on him after his physical and he threw it back at him. He seemed very annoyed signing a few kid's celtic shirts.

I wonder if MLS considers $1 million a fair valuation for Shalrie?

The good thing for him is that he didn't get noticed playing for his country so celtic would probably offer the same amount if they need a DM in january. The same can't be said for Dempsey who was riding some post WC notoriety.

gravesen was signing celtic tops, but wouldnt pose with one til he signed, the guy threw the scarf on him against his wishes, IMO he was in the right there.

Still on though as far as im aware, cant imagine this guy would be the sole replacement for gravesen and petrov though.

True. True.

I did read yesterday that Petrov's agent said deal was probably not happening. I also read that RM is pulling some last minute shennanagins with Gravesen.

IMHO:

* Nice to see the interest from Celtic: has to give Sharlie a boost of confidence.

* $1 million is a bit low in terms of a transfer fee. Granted, he's an international from a low-ranked country, and doesn't play in one of the "top tier" professional leagues in the world, but I think hte's worth more than that.

* For selfish reasons, I'm glad the League turned down the offer now. For selfless reasons, I'd hope that Celtic feels that they can wait until the end of the season for him.

Id say its more his age and the fact hes only really been on the map for 3 or so years with yourselves, he doesnt have many caps either for grenada. id Say £500k was worth a punt, as I said in that other thread though, £1 million or $2 million as it would be, is a bit of a gamble. Especially if gravesen comes, which is looking likely.

I hope the Revs are getting the message.

I hope the Revs are getting the message.

The message is, you better start prepping for a long off-season that will likely require filling some big holes.

Clint's not the only one.

The MLS disciplinary committee has suspended Galaxy defender Ugo Ihemelu for two games and fined him $750 for serious foul play in the Galaxy's 5-2 win against D.C. United Saturday. A tackle by Ihemelu on Dominic Mediate was not punished by referee Mark Geiger, who had cautioned Ihemelu earlier in the match.

Well I think I figured out why we can't win, all our players want to go to Europe and MLS won't let them. I think 1m is a pretty fair offer for Shalrie, maybe 1.5m-ish. MLS puts too high of a price tag on our players. I'd much rather see a bunch of MLS players go overseas and succeed and put a nice name on our league than have a bunch of digruntled players staying here. I'd buy the Shalrie kit if he went.

So from this we can assume that Nick Garcia is dating Garbers daughter?

And then we'd be left with more scrubs. No thanks. You let some leave (Clint) and you keep some (Taylor).

If MLS starts routeinly selling players out from under teams--IN MID SEASON-- this soccer fan will no longer be interested in MLS.

I didn't say we have to sell him now, January transfer window we can let him go. I'd love to see Shalrie playing in the Champion's League. As much as I'd love to see him stay and help us win the Cup, I would love seeing him go to Europe. The article also said we don't have a replacement for him and though the two players are miles apart in terms of skill, Larentowicz could have stepped in and done well. I really hope Celtic come back for him.

Wolff was set for a transfer to Derby County but was denied a work permit. Is MLS selling players during the season or not?

Derby County's too good of a team for Wolff

For selfish reasons, I'm glad the League turned down the offer now.

We can lose Dempsey, Noonan, Ralston, or Twellman. But the one single player that if we lose, we're hosed, is Joseph. I think he's gotta be the most underrated player in the entire league, and if I were the one calling the salary shots and could only designate one Rev as a cap-breaker, he'd be it.

Our US internationals may be the stars of the team, but it's plain to see Shalrie's the heart and soul.

Work visas aren't MLS's call in this case. Given that he's out of contract at the end of the year, he'd be one to want to sell midseason.

It's not that his permit was denied, but more that they had the transfer and salary negotiated and he was set to go. So they are willing to sell Josh Wolff from KC, who are just as much in the playoff run as the Revs but they aren't willing to sell any of the Revs players. It just strikes me as strange.

I think you're right: it is a bit strange that the League's justification (at least it seems to be the case) for not agreeing to transfer requests is that it's mid-season in MLS at present. However, if this is their rationale, then why agree to allow Wolff to make a move?

He might be out of contract at the end of the season, but since MLS player contracts are good through December 31st of the year they run out, they don't need to make a move now, and could still transfer him for a fee between the end of the season and the 31st.
