We have needed this for way too long.

So what say ye ... what do you like? And I swear, I'll pull out some unknown portion of the Riders charter (Magpie, Section 17.3.2.4b right?) to revoke everything that makes you even a human if you answer with a crap beer! :p

Chowda noted this on the CBus thread...
I don't want to turn this into another beer thread, but Sam Octoberfest is out and it's far superior to the crap they put out the past few years.

I'm very picky when it comes to my fall brews.
I do agree with this. The Octoberfest really has been good.

About time for this thread.

I have two top beers: Sam Adams Summer Ale and Newcastle Brown Ale. I drink the former whenever it is out and Newcastle when it's cold outside.

I have several beersnob stories to share, but I'll wait for some other time to post them.

I like to drink local brew when I can

I've gone on local kicks whenever I moved to a new duty station. I can usually get a good idea of which breweries are quality in a few months. Here's some comments from a few of the places I've been:

In Virginia: Anything from St. George is awesome. Everything else is crap. The wheat beer from Williamsburg is the worst wheat beer I've ever had. There are fantastic beer gartens in the Hampton Roads area, but not a lot of good local beers.

In Upstate NY: Cooperstown brewery is good (benchwarmer is a fav), Saratoga Brewery is crap (granted, the little bar in the basement is the town's best secret....for cheap alcoholics), Saranac pale ale is good, but their other beers are lame.

Let's see ... I won't put my full list on here because a) many are probably not beers most of you have ever heard of and b) the list would be too long.

But since I do like microbrewed beer, here's my (short) list of favorites:
Sam Adams all. Utopia was ... intense.
Sam Smith (Oatmeal Stout especially).
Harpoon Winter Warmer
Otter Creek Porter.
Sierra Nevada Celebration
Most of the Unibroue products (not a huge fan of La Fin du monde though)
Rapscallion
Guinness
Dogfish Head (the 120 minute IPA is phenomenal)
Rogue Shakespeare Stout
Chimay
New Belgium Fat Tire
Odell's Cutthroat Porter
Anderson Valley Winter Solstice

That's enough for now...

Just talking about these great beers is driving me nuts.

Still the best "beer" I've ever had...

Of course, for the price, it had better have been.
