View Full Version : Is it just me, or is Yahoo! getting more irritating?

I've been a Yahoo! user for years, but lately I've been thinking more and more about abandoning them. Their new front page is just too damn irritating for me with the way everything moves around, so I went back to the old page. Now I'm having to put up with an ad for the new page moving around, and that ad is telling me the old page is going to be retired Sept. 1. So I'm going to be stuck with the new page whether I used to like it or not.

I used to love Yahoo because I could look up information on a wide variety of topics; now it seems they just want to steer me to the latest crap on Paris Hilton. No thanks.

Anyone else find that Yahoo! ain't what it used to be anymore?

I can't delete my messages. So that kinda sucks.

I was getting 75 - 100 spam e-mails a day so I closed my account.

I hate how you have to re type in your password every single damn day. I am the only one who uses this computer and I have it saved for a reason. But of course now someone is going to hack my account. :(

so was I but I couldn't figure out how to close it ... so I left it open but I can't remember the last time I logged into it. i still use it for when I have to sign up to websites that you just know you'll be getting spam from. it's my spam address now.

Did yahoo sign a deal with myspace? That new yahoo looks so CLUTTERED. Yuck.

I use gmail as my email for everything. All the spam automatically goes to the spam box, I maybe, MAYBE get 1 spam every other month in my inbox plus 2.7 gig of email space (and growing). I also the firefox toolbar as my search engine.

I use Yahoo as my homepage and search engine, but the new page makes me want to put my head through my monitor. The old page wasn't my favorite thing, but it was better than the new one.

edit: I don't have anything blinking. God bless Adblock.

Yahoo's Mac support is a joke as well. That combined with their mail service trying to imitate Outlook and their all new random clutter homepage mean I'll be sticking with Google for mail, searches, and whatever else people might use Yahoo for.

Agree 100%. I've pretty much abandoned using it the last month or so.

I just use Yahoo to register for sites and buying stuff online now. They haven't made any effort to keep up with Gmail other than increasing disk space. Bunch of ********ing Yahoos.

I've had my Yahoo! mail since 1998 (I think). One day I got 366 bulk mail messages in two hours (http://grouchgeek.blogspot.com/2006/08/spam-flood.html).

I still use Yahoo! Mostly because I got my real name on a Yahoo! account so very it's easy to give to people in passing. In fairness to Yahoo! on the spam front, the majority, if not all bulk mail that comes to that account comes from a spammer list that is over six years old. My co-workers and family who have recent Yahoo! accounts do not have a spam problem. Unfortunately, all it takes is one time for a mail address to get sucked up into the spam machine and you're hosed.

I think Yahoo!'s problems came about because instead of keeping the simplest, and IMHO best, web-based interface (that worked without error for years), they caved to the "standards" and "web 2.0" crowd converting tables to CSS, adding dynamic Javascript driven features and content, and bloating the thing up. I've learned a lot from viewing the HTML/CSS/Javascript code behind Yahoo!, they have a lot of good people there. I wish they would have kept the simple instead of trying to compete with gMail. Although gMail is great and all, I have more problems with gMail under Opera than I do Yahoo! under Opera.

I've always hated Yahoo. You're right - it's way too cluttered.

I loves me some Google and Gmail. I use Google.com as my home page because it's so simple and clean and loads instantly.

Yahoo can bite me.

Been a Yahoo since I first got a computer back in the early nineties.

Loved the old page ... seriously hate the new page!

I thought I was alone...
