Hopefully this has more truth than the Duff and Chimbonda rumors... We could have really used Mido against Bolton and Everton. I'd be happy to have him back in order to increase the competition for the positions up front.

Here's a much better story about it from the Sun with quotes even
Mido is Back (http://www.thesun.co.uk/article/0,,2002390000-2006400067,00.html)
3.5M is the fee according to the Times.
Hope this all pans out. Seems certain...but until he's posing for pictures in the new kit...

Aren't they all the same quotes, just tidied up a bit?
I would be happy with this, better the devil you know and all that.

Same quotes as what? There aren't any quotes in the first story.

IMO, for 3.5M, i think he's a steal.
He's relatively young (can use him for a long long long time), and his talent was never in question. He's gotta know that he's behind Berbatov in the pecking order though.

Just a thought.....is Mido gonna play on the left if we don't get Downing?
Not as a typical winger obviously but on the left side of a 3-pronged attacked, presumably with Keane and Berbatov.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
THE TURD IS BACK
The Club is delighted to announce that we have reached an agreement with Roma for the transfer of Mido, subject to the formality of recieving his work permit.
The Egyptian international striker spent a season and a half with us after arriving on loan from the Italian side in January 2005.
He scored 11 goals in 27 appearances in the Premiership last term but a groin and then a knee injury ended his season a month early.
Martin Jol commented: “We’ve been tracking Mido since his loan ended and we were always keen to bring him back.
“Roma took some persuading and I’m delighted to have him in the squad.
“He knows I like him as a player, his strength in the air and his mentality. It’s an excellent addition to the squad and our striking options are now complete.”
The 23-year-old has previously played for Zamalek, Gent, Ajax, Celta Vigo and Marseille.
“I’m very happy to be back,” said Mido at Spurs Lodge. “It was and it always will be a great honour for me to play for Tottenham.
“I always knew in my heart I would be coming back. It is a fantastic move for me, I have some good friends here and it will be good to be back with the lads. I saw them training today and I’m looking forward to working with Martin and Chris again.
“I can’t wait to pull on a Tottenham shirt, to play at the Lane and score some goals.”

I'm delighted with that, we dont have to rely solely on Berbatov now.

I really can't see him being happy sitting on the bench.
I expect him to leave either in January 2007 or at the end of the season.
The British media will now come down hard on the fact that Jermain Defoe is playing for England and may now be 4th choice behind Berbatov, Keano & Mido.

It does seem...odd...that Jol has strengthened the striker position to the hilt while CM and LM look to be fairly in shambles with Davids showing his age, Jenas showing why Newcastle let him go, and Tainio showing why Tottenham chased Duff and Downing all summer. Meanwhile it looks like it will take time for Zokora to settle and adjust to the Premiership.
Bringing in 4 classy strikers seems foolish to me and I'm with Posh thinking he'll be bitching by midseason about his lack of first team opportunities.

Many top clubs have 4 strikers all capable of starting. I tend to agree that we will not be able to keep all of them happy, and that Mido in particular will whine.
But, considering how it seems a half-dozen Premiership teams now play with the Big Sam approach of a compact defense, physical play, and hope to nick a goal on set pieces; I think we need another target forward, and that's precisely what Mido is. Plus, all 3 of our other strikers can pair well with Mido. Keane roams and drops into deep positions very often, thus that's probably the best pairing for Mido. But, Berbatov will probably enjoy not being triple-teamed when Mido's in the game, so Berby will have more space to actually score. The biggest loser here will probably be Defoe, as he pairs poorest with Mido, and Keane is the only real creative force of the bunch, with Berby second.
I see Mido getting a lot of playing time actually. He'll play much of the games against the ankle-kicking teams, and even against the stiffest competition when we fall behind. But, I can't see us keeping him happy forever.

I dunno... I could seriously see Defoe leaving before Mido now. Mido will get plenty of football.
First off, Jol will undoubtedly use him whenever Berby's injured. He'll also use him instead of Berby in some competitions (like the league cup). Though this will surprise some people, Jol might even play Mido together with Berby against certain types of opposition (watch for this combination against more physical teams - like Blackburn and Wigan). Otherwise, he'll come on as a sub for Berby towards the end of games - much like Defoe has come on for Keane in the past.

i could also see jol going with a 4-3-3 or a 4-1-2-1-2 with keane dropping back behind defoe and berbatov.
