I heard from many sources that Toronto FC will play in the Open Canada cup. On many sites they say that because of this, the Lynx, Montreal, and Vancouver will join the cup too <which would be awesome>)
Im just wondering if anyone had any info on the history of the champions since 1998 (since it started then). Im currently making a Toronto website and I'd really apreciate this .

the lynx are a bad representation for canada in the tournament. i still don't know why montreal didn't participate. basically the open canada cup was a southern ontario tournament this year.

This particular cup tournament, sponsored by the Canadian Soccer League (formerly the CPSL) has only been in existence for five years and this is the first year any USL club has participated.
There have been reports out of Quebec (in French) that the CSA is seeking confiirmation of a Canadian spot in the CONCACAF Champions Cup tournament and will be running Canada Cup tournament either in October this year or in 2007, separate from or instead of the CSL version. The Montreal Impact, Vancouver Whitecaps and CSL champion plus presumably the winner of the national amateur club championship will compete for the privilege of representing Canada at the CONCACAF tournament. It is reported that the Toronto Lynx have declined to participate in a 2006 tournament. Don't know about subsequrent years.

Any articles about this rumor?
It's interesting that the major Canadian clubs are participating, seeing how it's mainly an "Ontario" league cup. Not many, if any, clubs from other provinces participate. That being said, it's seems impossible for the winners of the Canada Open Cup would get that CONCACAF Champions League spot.

Past winners should be on the cpsl.ca site... I would think.
I believe Windsor won the first two editions of the Cup.

Windsor defeated London City 3-0 in the 2005 Open Cup. Windsor beat Ottawa St Anthony 4-2 on PK's after the two teams finished tied 1-1 at the end of Extra time in the 2004 final. In 2003 London City defeated the Metro Lions 4-2 on PK's after a 1-1 tie.
I think 2003 was the first Open Cup.

But thanks for the info, Im getting more of an idea. But whatever the case, once Toronto FC joins it, the importance will be raised much more and im sure theyll have more info about it in the coming year.

hmmm... I don't know if that is correct. I think the Open Cup, with amateur teams invited, didn't start until 2003.
1998 was the first season of the CPSL, after a name change from the CNSL.
Anyway, here is some more information which you might find of use...

i don't think there is a country wide league, however here in ontario we have the csl. the csl has a domestic division and an international division. this years champions will probably be the serbian white eagles.
