Shalrie finally looked like he had a pulse and now he's out for the return leg.
Anyone think we can pull another rabbit out of the hat?
We'll have dempsey back.

Considering we usually play our away games for the tie (7 ties in 13 games) ... this should be interesting. Another three points would be huge though.

I think they will be inspired by the Midnight Riders appearance and will win one for us. 2-1 Revs

~If he had to be out for a game I guess this is the best one for Bully to miss. Sure wish Hernandez was back and fit. I have a lot of confidence in Jeff but Joseph really controls that part of the field. I suspect Dorman with more there alongside Jeff.
~Doubt we will see Noonan. Sims looks like an adequate replacement but I suspect he will sit and we will see Due up top with TnT.
~Fortunately Crew will be without a key scoring threat due to his Red Card
Reis
Heaps. Parkhurst, Riley
Ralston, Dorman, Pepe. Larentowicz, Franchino
TnT, Dempsey
Bench Options: Pepe, Smith, Sims, John, Brown
Will this be the game where the Revs break out of their finishing funk? The win yesterday could really help. I have absolutly no doubt the SN will settle for nothing less than 3 points.

Agree with the lineup with the only exception being that Pepe can't be both on the pitch and on the bench ;-) .

With Stevie as head coach, I wouldn't be too sure of that :)

I hope you're right, because so far this year on the road, the record shows that we've played not to lose more than to win.
Hell, just thinking about it ... we are 2-4-7 on the road this year. Out of the 7 ties, two of them required us scoring miraculous last second goals to just get a tie. In another, our only goal was one we didn't even score. And in two others, we haven't scored at all. We don't play for three points on the road, we play not to lose.

Only 3 times in 13 road games have we scored more than one goal. We're 1-1-1 in those three.

Monty, you make an classical error in logic: Post Hoc Ergo Propter Hoc
Because the Revs haven't won those road games or scored well in those games doesn't mean the Coach didn't have every intention of fielding a team that he felt could bring home three points. I may sound like a broken record but the problem hasn't been our intention to go for the win or to attack. attack. attack---it's been not finishing, not finishing, not finishing. Maybe the best example of that was the first road game to the swamp. The Revs out played the RBs, had a huge number of shots and SOG and got ---ZIP in the net.
When your scorers are not scoring--you don't get results. Thats not playing defensive soccer---thats playing inadequate offensive soccer.

I disagree fully on this.
I think anyone who's watched all or even a majority of the road games has seen this team bunker hard. We saw it when they were up a man in Houston, we saw it when they scored two goals in the first half in Chicago and then seemingly never stepped past the midfield lines after that, we saw it in KC ...
Since you'd like to point out shots on goal to show we do, I'll show you the other side. Here's our list of shots on goals in every road game.
W @ LA: 2, LA had 4
T @ RBNY: 7, RBNY had 2
L @ KC: 2, KC had 6
L @ FCD: 4, FCD had 5
L @ DC: 3, DC had 6
T @ Chi: 8, Chicago had 6
T @ CBus: 3, CBus had 5
T @ RSL: 1, RSL had 3
L @ Col: 5, Colorado had 6
W @ Chi: 4, Chicago had 9
T @ Hou: 0, Houston had 8
T @ KC: 5, KC had 7
T @ Chiv: 3, Chivas had 6
So in 13 games, we've taken 47 SOG, only 3.62 per game. The opponents have taken 73, 5.62 per game. We've outshot our opponents twice.
On the other hand, at home in 11 games we have 71 SOG, good for 6.55 shots on goal per game.
I'm not sure how you can say that we play attacking soccer on the road. I'm sorry, it's just not true. In four out of 13 road games, we averaged a shot on goal (or less) per half. We have scored 12 goals in 13 road games.
We can't finish when we can't get good shots on net. When you have a chance to go for the jugular of a team and you bring in defensive help (up a man) I have no idea how that can be defined as anything but playing for a tie.

Total shots don't matter. If I take a shot from 40 yards out and it crosses the corner flag, it'll probably count as a shot. See Daniel Hernandez for that one.
But hell I fully believe this will just to help prove your point wrong, so I'll do it anyway:
W @ LA: 2, LA had 4 -- we were outshot 12-3
T @ RBNY: 7, RBNY had 2 -- we outshot them 21-14
L @ KC: 2, KC had 6 -- we were outshot 12-6
L @ FCD: 4, FCD had 5 -- we were outshot 13-10
L @ DC: 3, DC had 6 -- we were outshot 12-8
T @ Chi: 8, Chicago had 6 -- we outshot them 14-8
T @ CBus: 3, CBus had 5 -- we were outshot 14-11
T @ RSL: 1, RSL had 3 -- we were outshot 11-8
L @ Col: 5, Colorado had 6 -- 13-13
W @ Chi: 4, Chicago had 9 -- we were outshot 21-9
T @ Hou: 0, Houston had 8 -- we were outshot 10-4
T @ KC: 5, KC had 7 -- we outshot them 16-14
T @ Chiv: 3, Chivas had 6 -- we were outshot 11-6
That's 177 shots taken by the opponents in 13 games compared to the Revs taking 137. Over 3 shots per game higher for the opponent. We average 10.5 shots per game on the road, and 12.7 at home.

Assuming roughly equal time of possession and equal goal differential (implying that the difference in SOG and shots isn't just the result of getting smoked - a fair assumption, I think), Monty's analysis is game, set, and match. If it turns out we're not bunkering by choice, but hanging on for our lives like the bad old days, that's different.

We haven't won two games in a row since June 28th and July 1st (both games at home).
We've only won two games in a row twice this entire season (God that's pathetic), but both times, both games have been at home.

ok, I'm taking a new attitude.
Ries made possibly the most important save of his career the other day.
He has set his team mates hearts ablaze. They are swelling with pride and got a taste of that sweet joy of victory. Their minds are racing, like muscle memory they are remembeing winning.
Look at Shalrie's quote....
The streak is broken. It's all up hill from here.
They sat on the edge of the giant canyon of oblivion, infact they were so close they could feel the ground sliding below. they watched the sand of possibilty gently spill over the edge, and they collectivly have made the decision to step back from the edge and run like hell in the opposite direction.
It's a new day my friends.
A glorious new day.
From oblivion to greatness. and now with inspiration and some deep soul searching, it time for us to go and claim destiny. To take that ellusive cup which has slipped through our fingers before.
go revs!:)
or I swear to god I will jump the fence and kill you bastards next week:mad:

I wouldn't even count that game on 7/1. RBNY seriously didn't show up for the game. They were aweful. Yet, they still scored twice on us.

Something I just thought of that may have been mentioned before. Why doesn't Nicol try a 4-5-1? I hate the formation, but let me try this out:

--Riley---Heaps---Parkhurst---John--
-------------------------------------
---------------Joseph----------------
-------------------------------------
---Ralston-----Dorman-----Noonan---
-------------------------------------
--------------Dempsey---------------
