If Georgia State can find a field, then Georgia Tech can. Can somebody raise a little hell about this please?

With Georgia Tech's roughly 66% male population, they should have had a men's soccer team 5 years ago.

Someone needs to get in their ear about this. A team at Georgia Tech would be unbelievable for soccer in georgia, not to mention it would be a good connection between a future MLS team in Atlanta.

Atlanta youth club players don't get half of the attention from college coaches that they deserve. I am sick of other colleges poaching our best players, instead of one awesome team at Georgia Tech, the state's best players end up at:
Clemson, Duke, Berry, Mercer, Georgia Southern, Emory, UAB, South Carolina, UM-Loyola, West Virginia, Wisconsin, Ohio State, Hartwick, Georgetown, Wake Forest, etc. And let's not forget the many players that choose to go to UGA and GA Tech.

Just imagine all of those players and much more from out of state, playing on one team.

There are alot of issues about the situation that I am not fully infoprmed about. It'd be great to see but right now my efforts are focused on getting a MLS team. Try writing a letter to the new Athletic Director. Maybe he'll get you some answers.

From my understanding, it's a Title IX/scholarship issue at both GA Tech and UGA. I know UGA added women's soccer (as did most of the SEC), softball, and equestrian to become Title IX compliant.

For these schools to add men's sports, they'd have to add a comparable number of women's sports scholarships. They're starting to run out of sports to add...

God, Title IX makes no sense....why make men's and women's scholarship opportunities equal when there are many more males than females that participate in athletics. It should properly reflect the proportions, right?

or at least inclue more things for the Ladies. Is cheerleading considered a sport? It should be, and then we can include Soccer. And what about Color Guard? You can't tell me that spinning a rifle like that isn't a more physically demanding sport than Golf!

With GT and UGA not having teams i'm probably in the boat with most Georgia soccer fans supporting Clemson.(of course that's where my parents went to college so it's not that hard to convert) They have been having remarkable success this season.... pulling in fans around 7,000 and ranked number one.

that's smart of adair to play the games on friday nights instead of sunday afternoon. i have always liked friday night games because they tend to draw larger crowds because it's the start of the weekend and night games always seem more festive than day games.

I get the weekly GT athletics update email that includes the new AD's column. He has solicited feedback, so just this week I sent an email asking about why GT has not added soccer, especially since it is such a big sport in the ACC. They say they can not answer all emails, but that all emails are read. Any GT fans should do the same.

I'll try to drop him an email. I do know that there was talk of adding a women's program a few years back.

It is absolutely pathetic and shocking that neither of the two big schools in Georgia have a soccer team.

Maybe they need to do what JMU did -- drop archery to become Title IX compliant.

Virginia Tech needs to continue to build their program and get solid recruits from Georgia(Collier brothers) before they get mens teams. I'm still a little mad our women's team lost our All-American Georgia girl to Georgia after two years.
I am kinda hoping VT could pick up some JMU programs and maybe get a men's lacrosse team. I'm tired of the club team saying they have no desire to be a varsity sport. Lax is too big in the ACC not to have a men's team.

Sounds good to me -- UVa would love for VT to have a team :)

Sorry, should've been clearer -- I meant a lax team (following up on the last comment).

Title xi requires, among other things, that scholarship opportunities for women reflect the % of the overall women's % of the school. That same protection does not apply to men's sports though. Also no argument has been successful in proving the "women don't desire scholarships" argument, as it's not true as who doesn't want a scholarship.

UGA has roughly 60% female students. We will never be able to add a men's program until the current interpratation of title ix changes. The overall scholarship numbers, while I do not have an exact number, are far from being able to add any men's scholarships. In fact, we could drop several men's programs and still not be able to add a new one. Everything the school reasonably can do has been done, including adding several women's sports like equestrian. Men's soccer at UGA currently can not happen.

Tech has roughly 66% males. Therefore they could possibly reach their proportianate scholarship number. In addition their conference has men's soccer (actually the best men's conference top to bottom) whereas the SEC does not. All effort should be made by fans in influencing tech.
