MIAMI FC SLAUGHTERS THE SILVERBACKS 7-1; HAT TRICK BY ROMARIO

August 27, 2006- Miami, FL- Miami FC was unstoppable this Sunday afternoon at Tropical Park Stadium. The South Floridian men crushed the Atlanta Silverbacks 7-1 and are well in route to the play-offs in their inaugural season in the USL First Division.

In the first half, Miami FC played simply their best 45 minutes so far this season. The South Floridian squad was aggressive and effective, and ended up with a 3-0 lead. At the 13th minute, Diego Walsh drilled a shot from outside the box and scored his 3rd goal in the last 4 games to give Miami FC the lead. Then, at the 30th minute, on an eececellent thoughr ball from Zinho, Sean Fraser hit a low near post shot to just slide by Shau Kalnasy to put Miami FC two up. Almost three minutes later Miami FC gave the fans something else to cheer about. A cross by Jamil Jean-Jaques was perfectly headed in by Romario who scored his 15th goal of the season and gave the Floridians the 3-0 lead at half time.

Just minutes into the second half and Miami FC still did not take their foot off the gas pedal. In the 49th minute Sean Fraser scored his second goal of the game and made it 4-0. A few minutes later, Romario took advantage of a one on one situation with keeper Kalnasy and made it look so easy for the South Floridans sitting at 5-0. In the 53rd, Romario took his time in and made a beautiful shot from outside the box to tally the sixth goal for Miami FC. It was Romario’s second hat-trick of the season and his 17th goal. At the 61st minute Rodrigo Rios took one back for Atlanta and put the score 6-1; but 10 minutes later, Diego Walsh had another great shot after an assist by goalkeeper Eric Kronberg and made it 7-1 for Miami FC.

After the game, Brazilian scoring legend, Romario, said, “Scoring is always great, but the most important thing is that the team is peaking at the right moment.”

Miami FC plays their last regular season home game next Friday, September 1, at 8:00 PM against the Minnesota Thunder at Tropical Park Stadium.

Was anyone at the game?? Any comments, opinions, anything at all you could share with us?? Four wins in the last 5 games... I agree with Romario, the team seems to be peaking at the right time...
Thanks

I know some people who flew down for the game.

Was pretty ridiculous, my boy was calling my brother with updates.

Said despite the 800+ number Miami gave that there couldn't have been more than 250 people there and that Romario just stood at the front of the box all game and poached from there.

Miami is in deep trouble. The franchise may last one more year but with only 250 people showing up for matches, they may crash and burn after this season. Marketing the team to the Hispanic population only is a failed strategy.

Sorry, all I just read was "I am just a bitter S-Back fan that is pissed that my team was just spanked 7-1". Did you say something else?

It makes no difference which team won or lost. The sad fact is that only 250 people bothered to watch it. I would love to see Miami thrive as a franchise. We do not need to lose any teams. We are trying to expand the league if possible.

bitter indeed

that is a spanking

why no loco????

im baffled to why he didn't start? he's hand down the team second best player stat wise

i bet you this team is doing better than you think, they are porably making ends meets with local sponsors and and a radio broadcasting rights
this isn't a MLS franchise, its a USL d 1 team, it doesn't take a lot of money compare to the MLS to run a team.

I think Loco had a minor injury and sat this match out. They did not need him.

I am never bitter concerning sporting events because I have learned that the worm always turns.

Honestly... as a non-partisan party... if they're only drawing 250 (or hell, even 800) with some of the names they have, in the city they're in... the franchise is definately in trouble.

If my mediocre Riverhounds in Pittsburgh can draw over 2,000 for most games... there's no reason Miami FC shouldn't double that number.

Nothing new. That's what he's done his whole career and he is the best at it too. 18 more goals and he'll surpass Pele. Pictures of yesterday's game are here: Enjoy!

They have sponsors and yes it takes a whole lot to get Floridians out of their air conditioned environments and go out into the hot burning sun to watch a sporting event.

They will definitely be back next year I already got confirmation of this.

NOT! He had 5 cumulative yellow cards and so as a result he had to sit the game out.

Bitter? Why?

I'm just stating a fact from what my buddy told me who was at the game.

Well, Well! Some of those posts sounded bitter to me. Even if it wasn't intended. No sense denying it. If Atlanta kicked our asses 7-1 we would be bitter too. I hope your son didn't waste his time and money only to come down here to cheer the Silverbacks. I hope that he at least got to enjoy our cities and visit some of the great clubs and beaches before he headed back home.

Silverbacks are a good team, last night was not their night.
Miami is a great team and last night they played some of the best soccer I've seen all year. Very technical, very skilled passes. It was beautiful to watch.

We're gelling dude!
Cheers!
Vamos Miami!

Oh BTW, the crowds will come. Unlike other cities. South Floridians are a mix of Europeans, South Americans and others. We demand quality soccer. We are accustomed to having quality soccer from many of the countries that make up this mix. MiamiFC will only continue to improve and with it will come the fans that love to watch the great game. I hope that you guys take it seriously and improve as well. It's time to raise the bar.

eh, i think they gotta do a better job marketing this team.....also they should spend some time makin' the games a more fan friendly place, with like.........better food, drink selections, etc.

hell maybe change venues, probably once that is done, you'll notice and more will come, cause 250, 800, even 1,000 is pretty pathetic.

but still good we won

No beer is the biggest reason why there is also no good food.
The 1st 2 games they had a temporary license to sell beer and the crowds were pretty good the food was great too! Asado morsillas, chorizo a complete parrillada. Then after that, no license no beer and with it went the food. After all, It is a public park owned and operated by Miami-Dade.

The thought now was to give the beer away for free. That's right FREE. That should attract fans! They just need a sponsor that is willing to do that. Then the food be be back because there will be more fans to consume the food and drink the beer. Oh yeah! Watch the game too!

I wouldn't hesitate to purchase a ticket for a game that included 3 free beers (must be 18 or over to participate or is it 21)
