aren't the Olympics usually in September?* As the leagues don't cancel fixtures for the Olympics usually it would mean Lita not being available for Reading matches.
there's not been a British Olympic team (in football) since 1908, when the FAs of all the home nations split from FIFA after they allowed professional players to play in the Olympics, whereas those forward-thinking radicalists at the FA thought that professionals undermined the olympian ideal.
* or when it's in London they'll be held whenever the stadium's ready. It could be that the winter and summer olympics get to be held the same year for once.
I don't know if they're following through, but in getting the games, they did pledge to field a british footie squad. thought I remembered them talking about popping the team in china, as well, but i might have been drunk. it was a sports presser, after all.

Ireland Squad for USA Friendlies Announced. (http://www.fai.ie/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=2011)
If you want to see Hunt, Doyle and Long live in the States here is your chance. They play Ecuador on May 23rd at Giants Stadium and Bolivia on May 26th at Gillette. I think the Bolivia game is a double header with a NE Revs game.

Hunt, Doyle, and Bennett all started for Ireland in a 1-1 draw with Ecuador. Doyle scored Ireland's lone goal, and Long came on for Doyle in the 60th minute.

I know there were a lot of injuries going into this mini-tour, but given the amount of time they played, and their contributions, I believe all four will continue to be part of the Ireland squad. I doubt all four will be starters, but Doyle is almost certainly a front mainstay, Hunt is a spot starter, Long is getting more valuable every week and Bennett has probably earned a spot on a 24 deep sheet, at least. Very impressive.

A good reminder to set my PVR - the game's on FSC at noon PDT. The U21 game v. Slovakia will also be on FSC on Tu 6/5 at 1:00 PM PDT. Frinkin' SPORT wants $20 for the England v. Estonia game... oh well. 2 out of 3 and all that.

Of course that's assuming he'll play. Knowing McClaren he'll go wild trying to prove his tactical genius and pick a 3-4-3, or not pick shorey as he want to go with experienced players, while moaning that that he would would give players like shorey a debut but he couldn't as he'd never played for England before.

Lita scored the last goal in a 5-0 win.
Shorey isn't starting, so I assume he's on the bench.

I guess Lita could have 3 goals already in this U21 tournament. He missed a pen in the last game, and I just started watching but apparently he's missed two good chances.

Yes! Now he's done it. Lita scores and its 2-0 against Lita. Nice powerful left footed shot.

Good, he needed to score after that aweful penalty last match. I don't want his head down when he comes back to the club.

Lita was not called in for the U-21s.
The FA site has Lita playing today against Italy.
