The 'team' of talented individuals runs around like headless chickens, losing two goals in the process. Meanwhile the manager stands on the touchline, arms crossed and looking slighly constipated.

Sound familiar? Is this a video of West Ham in the relegation year?

No

Newcastle v villa, August 2006.

Poor Glenn; he seems a really nice guy.

Obviously didn't see the game but it looked like a West Ham performance from the second season under Roeder. Injuries galore, playing a formation forced upon him by such injuries but the manager resolutely refusing to take the easy option and blame said injuries. All they needed was a centre half up front and the whole thing would have been complete.

The Geordies better start praying that good 'ol Glenn don't get a headache with 5 games of the season to play (whilst fighting relegation)!!!

Poor bugger god knows why he went back into management. Newcastle have a great squad with experience. Souness had bought as much cack as we had at West Ham.

I've said my piece on Roeder many times. I wouldn't have him back, as we have Pardew, who is a man of vision. However, he's not as bad as people make out. Certainly no worse than the Irish chancer that many wanted to replace him with in the autumn of 2002.

Didn't see the game but if Reoder starts wearing that black leather look jacket I'd be very worried if I were a Toon fan :D

I also feel for Roeder. He tried to do that change Pards have completed - from a bunch of lazy undermotivated overpaid overweight stars to this well trained modern type of football team.

Of course the man was a poor manager but he´s undoubtedly a great coach. Just remember what JC (then just taken from the Academy to our senior side) said when Roeds was appointed: "One of the best coaches I´ve played for".

But honestly, a nice bloke who shouldn´t be drawn into this hard world of management.

 are you being ironic? JC had barely played under any coaches. How could he be a fair judge?

Though I agree, Newcastle look like they'll struggle this year.

I have maintained this opinion since last season, especially when they finished 7th!! It was quite eerie how they appeared from nowhere to sneak into that position and begin their foretold destiny.

There are so many parallels to draw between our team under Roeder and the Newcastle team of today that I just do not know where to start. Injuries, overpaid players, underperforming players, dodgy chairman, lack of strikers, a small squad of big names and all topped off with a general lack of confidence in Roeder's ability to take the club anywhere other than downwards.

As soon as we see Bramble playing as a striker we know the destruction sequence is complete.

It was partly thanks to players like Cole and Carrick that West Ham ended up with Roeder, they went to Brown and encouraged him to appoint him saying how great he was. Funny how they didn't want to play for him after we got relegated. The problem with Roeder at WH was that he was a weak man manager. Most of us love a boss who basically let us do what we like. Trouble is that's not usually what's best for us or the boss! Di Canio said we'd be relegated when Roeder was appointed and he was right although his own behaviour left a lot to be desired. Anyway, thankfully for WH Roeder is fast becomming a distant memory.
