Australia is geographically considered a part of asia, though i'd much rather see australia grow up in the euro league - but who wouldn't want there country competing where some of the best football is played.

For example, say, Japan? They make tons of everyday products and cars, Sony, Honda, Lexus,

Bottled water!?
I guess youre not a rally fan, cause Citroen kicks the ass of all your 'popular' asian rides.

How much of the national income is earned on the African continent i wonder? France still has huge interests over there, not? And well, that the only French product the topicstarter knows is Evian..says enough about his intelligence  it's true the topic had a whiff of trolling about it, but the responses and counterresponses show that's not at all the case; it's was serious, polite question showing a healthy interest.

france is only 1/5 the size of the states, and our major trading partner is germany, so it's understandable that the american consumer would have little idea of what makes up our economy.

moreover, the way corporations have globalized makes it difficult to identify exactly who is who.

nissan is not exactly part of renault (i"m very well placed to know ;) ) but the two companies are strongly linked, and just as renault saved nissan from disappearing, the alliance may end up doing the same for GM, which is living on borrowed time.

as for the quality of renaults, they made a catastophic joint venture with AMC in the 80's that destroyed their credibility in NA for a long time, but they make excellent cars and do well in demanding markets like germany, and are opening up in china, india et al better than most anyone. Carlos Ghosn was offered worldwide control of Ford and turned it down.

talking about wine, perfume and handbags is peanuts. but france is a (sometimes the) world leader in atomic energy, railroads, aerospace, cheicals, steel ... and i believe the world's biggest bank is french at the moment. (as i say, these things are very fluid in our new world order)

as for being able to bottle still water and sell it for a fortune all over the world, that's a pretty neat trick! almost as cagey as the beaujolais nouveau! ;)

LOL! I believe the 99 flavor was banana........ I've never puked so much in my life. There were a couple of clubs in Old Nice that did "tastings" when the new bottles came in. Aweful shit.....
