I hope we don't sign him for the simple fact that these boards will be clogged with homer Aussie supporters going on and on about how no one likes them and the teams won't play them and how Harry Kewell could singlehandedly win us the league if we'd just give him more support.

I had to quote you from the previous thread in a dodgy style- sorry!!

Maybe we carry on because at least there is an Aussie in the first team mix in Liverpool. That'll be one more than the whole of the United States!!! :p

Unless you want to start a rumour about us on the verge signing Freddy Adu!!! :D

For what it's worth, I'm under no illusions about Neill's ability and I agree with the guys who are saying that Neill wouldn't be a good buy. From a football perspective I think broadly speaking they would be taking a step backwards from the Hyppia/Carra combination in central defence. His disciplinary record speaks for itself and I'm not sure how great a partnership Neill and Carragher could possibly form after the acrimony surrounding the leg-breaking incident anyway (on that note, I'm hardly surprised at the dislike towards him here, and with good reason).

I do, however, object to the claims that the guy goes out there to deliberately inflict serious injuries on opposition players. That's a big slur on any player, and requires backing up.

Is it such a baseless claim when you consider Neill got ANOTHER Red Card the very next game he played against Liverpool, following the Jamie Carragher leg-breaking incident? It was a Carling Cup match.
Oh come on... tell the whole story. That tackle was a foul, but an innocuous clip and definitely not unsafe. The only reason he was (rightly) sent off is because Florence was taking a shot on goal at the time. Hardly evidence that he's deliberately out to injure people.

A little research on the Beeb site indicates the source of the Woodgate rumour is the ***. So take it for what it is worth, lining the parrakeet cage.

In the meantime, The Echo (http://icliverpool.icnetwork.co.uk/0500liverpoolfc/0100news/tm_objectid=17626418%26method=full%26siteid=50061%26page=2%26headline=benitez%2dfury%2dat%2dnorway%2dfa-name_page.html) reports that Florent Sinama-Pongolle is rumoured to be off, possibly to Lyon. Will be a pity to see him go but I can well understand given that his chances are now rather limited. I hope we get a good fee for him.

well, i doubt hell get anywhere near the cb spot unless hyppia, agger and carragher are injured.i think the idea is to offload kromkamp and bring in neill just for RB cover.

Great idea -- one or two players crocked and we bring in someone who's only been fit for 12 games in the last two years? I don't know if I think thats much of an idea.

Question: If we take a player on loan, are we obligated to pay his current wage, or will his wages be split between the two clubs or is it all renogotiated with the new club?

Assuming Woodgate is on one of those inflated Real madrid pay scales - just how much will 'Pool have to pay.

well that would be the debate wouldn't it. Real would look to place him where he'd play and they'd get some sucker to absorb most if not all of his wages. He's on 90K GBP a week! That's a massive wage bill for a back up center half.

I'm with LB on this. The S*n is in league with his agent insidiously trying to hamstring us with an expensive walking lame. Woodgate is, after little Mickey and Dyer, the most crocked England player around. I fail to see the logic of his capture. Honestly.

EDIT: Phew (http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/news/drilldown/N153285060825-1417.htm)!

GAAK! Only the NBA pays that much to sit on the bench.

Well, of course...we obviously want everyone to succeed here rather than fail. I mean, we do want the team to do well.

yes, we're all Liverpool supporters, but we have a small contingent of Aussie supporters who come in here and bad mouth the club, and us, for not blindly supporting all socceroos no matter how bad they have taken the piss out of our club. That's who my comments were in reference to.

He's right, and he was hardly badmouthing all Aussies. Who are the rest of these so-called shit-talking Americans? Examples, please.

The Gaffer on Woodgate:

"We are not talking with Woodgate. It is a rumour and the first I heard of it was in the newspapers. There is no interest in this player."

"It is true we have injuries to defenders. Carra is injured and can't play for England. It's not a serious injury and he could be back for the Merseyside derby. "

"Riise and Warnock are out for 10 to 15 days and Gabriel Paletta is injured after he had a kick on his knee."
