First let me start with a disclaimer. The following is not geared to anyone or any group in general. In fact I am guessing that the one idiot I would like to address this to is not even likely to read this. That being said I have to put this out there and hope for everyone's help. As those of you who know me are aware, I don't like being called down to the principal's office. Unfortunately that happened this morning after a smoke bomb hit the field last night at the Open Cup match. The good news is that all that is coming out of that meeting is this post. RFK has been very good about not causing a stir over the occassional smoke bomb after a goal. Let me be clear, that isn't to say that smoke bombs are allowed or desired. As we have done all year, if you are caught with a smoke bomb you will be tossed from the stadium. RFK simply has been kind enough not to turn the stands into a police state. Smoke bombs on the field however are another matter. I think most everyone knows that so I simply ask that you keep an eye out for (or better yet point out) anyone doing this. I am concerned about what might happen the next time this occurs. I also want to make everyone aware that another incident took place last night when someone decided it was a good idea to throw M80s at the visiting Red Bull fans. That person was caught and has been banned from the stadium and he is very lucky he was not arrested. We cannot and will not tolerate that behavior. We prefer to send visiting team fans home with a nice smack down on the field like last night. We don't need them to be physically harrassed. We are better than that. Again, I have no doubt I am preaching to the choir here but you can pass the word along to those who might need to hear it.

Thanks,
Stephen

Thanks Stephen for keeping us posted, and for allowing for some latitude in what the fan groups can do in general. I think we recognize that, in terms of dealing with the stadium, turning a blind eye to smoke bombs is "playing with fire" in more ways than one.

We appreciate you working with us, and we will continue to try to police our own.
The flare that made it to the field came from waaaay back in the crowd, and I know it surprised most in the section since we were all pretty happy at that point and busy applauding our guys for a job well done.
Thanks again!

Can I just add that the keeping it in "the section" means 135/136/137 (the Barra). The ones tossed in the SE Nest last night were not appreciated, let's be respectful of each other's space please.

Damn, that's dangerous. He should've been arrested.

To be fair, we don't know where the offending smoke bombs came from last night, and as a group we'll continue to support you in your efforts to keep the "look the other way" policy on smoke bombs. They look cool.

But we have a smoke bomb-free section for a reason. A lot of people - including many Barra co-members - stand in Eagles sections because they don't want the smoke or can't deal with it from a health perspective. So when the bombs end up in 134 it becomes a bad neighbor situation on a number of levels, because it negatively affects how we can give our members what they want.

Barra leadership has been good about this - I saw R&B put at least one out himself last night. I don't anticipate this being a major problem as long as everyone's respectful.

yup we got bit too relaxed since it's been going good lately :) I really can't think of a good reason to hurl one on a field in DC (not that it does damage, but still, bad precedant), but I couldn't find person last night cos noone I asked saw it :)

PS Marshall I think you need copyright your terms :D

I'm pretty sure the smoke bomb came from 133 last night. I'm on the aisle in 134 (seat 1) and saw a trail of smoke in the air and then saw the smokebomb on the field. When I followed the trail back to the section there was a smoke bomb burning in the aisle as well. I'm not sure who did it, but someone in a Redskins hat was leaving the section and walked away quickly from the area. For all I know it could have come from behind him and he was just trying to get away from the smoke.

I have to admit, I like when they go off after goals, but when someone tosses one in the air or towards the field - that's not so cool.

Okay screw it, I was standing in the Barra and partly the aisle last night. WE're all cheering and what not, and then, (I think it was in the 2nd half) 2 gentlemen in white t-shirts came into the barra section, and were standing next to me.
shortly there after is when I noticed the smoke bombs, so I stepped over to the SE side to avoid being kicked out, since I wasn't creating the mischief.
I am not here to rat nor police anyone, and I didn't know if these guys were Barra or what, so I kept my mouth shut. Next time I'll point it out to the Elders and let them handle things...
Pardon me if my rookie negligence caused any ruckus...

It came from the back of 133 and while I saw the culprits I did not recognize them as game-day regulars and was busy trying to stomp out one of the ones left burning in 133 to make an issue of it with them. Those responsible scurried out of the section pretty quickly.

Smoke in BB is not a problem. Smoke in other sections, or on field, is :)

I saw them too and it was the same two jacka$$es who threw them from the back of 133 onto the field. I know that because purely out of coincidence, I was looking behind me in that direction trying to see if I could locate another Screaming Eagle when it happened. I knew it was the two guys who had lit them a little bit before right under my seat () and Goose had kicked it away which is how it ended up in the aisle.
