Seriously, I'm hearing the same boring chants today that I heard during the Wrongen era. I aim to do something about that...
ANNOUNCING THE D.C. UNITED SONG CONTEST:
$200 cash out of my own pocket to the Grand Prize winner
The winning song will:
About D.C. United, this should be obvious, but we aim to do our boys proud.
Be Original, not heard on any other football pitch on this planet. Parodying a pop song is okay, but claiming a variant of a song you heard on a trip to Arsenal or Barcelona last spring, or that you sung for your high school football team, is not.
Be Long. It's got to last at least 60 seconds. It's got to have at least two lines, preference given to a song with four lines. I don't want to hear some variant of "Let's Go United" or "Vamos United" or the like chanted over and over. Sure you can repeat the two lines over and over. In total the song as sung must last over a minute.
Be Loud & Be Popular. You've got to organize enough people in the Screaming Eagles/Barra Brava section to sing your song for a minute and make it loud enough that it can be heard across RFK Stadium (road trips, reserve games, and minor league stadiums don't count) for two consecutive games (if you're that good it should be heard every game).
The contest ends at the final whistle of the last United home game (including playoffs) of the 2006 season. If there is a winner I will hand you your winnings that night.
If more than one song is created that meets the criteria of the contest, sole judgment of which song is the winner will rest with my discretion.
All rights to said song will rest with the winner (or in the case of a parody the original composer). The winner is responsible for all taxes.
Enjoy,
John M. Stafford

Bored? Sitting on the quite side last night I thought the songs were pretty good.
If I pad out a four line song that takes only 20 seconds to sing with an instrumental, does that still count?

I'm telling you, it's battle hymn of the republic:
Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord;
He is trampling out the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored;
He hath loosed the fateful lightning of His terrible swift sword;
His truth is marching on.
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! D.C. is marching on.
I have seen Him in the watch fires of a hundred circling camps
They have builded Him an altar in the evening dews and damps;
I can read His righteous sentence by the dim and flaring lamps;
His day is marching on.
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! D.C. is marching on.
We're God's team, or maybe it's a song to Etcheverry.

its is well known were the best.
Oh what dark uniforms,
the opposition has torn,
over MLS we reign,
for other teams we cause pain...

I thought that one started "Mine eyes have seen the glory of the burning of the school..."

With these two things you might as well make the prize 200K. Dougg will testify that many of us in LaNorte can't learn a 15 second song. I can't speak for BB & SE but even at the SoccerPlex the supporters often couldn't sing the same songs at the same time. :)
Most importantly who cares? As long as DC United is on the field you should'nt be bored.

Stafford, I love you man but creating a 60 second song that people will be able to memorize and sing is gonna be impossible.
"S*** on the bastards below" was a song we all learned together (at Capital Soccer Ball '97) at the same time from the same person (Sam Pierron from Kansas City) - and it still took time to get everyone on board for that one. That song is the longest one we know, but it isn't 60 seconds long.
