Really good stuff!
Grant Wahl putting in his time to really capture why United fans have such a special bond with the players.
Big props to the Barra!

Big props to Grant Wahl, who I hear attended a tailgate and stood in the Barra.

I am not a member of any of the three supporter's groups, but barra brava and the other groups are a big reason why I feel so good about the future of professional soccer in this country. Quality on the field is important, but you would be very, very hard pressed to find better quality fans in any sport.
When people wonder if soccer can work in this country, just look at these guys. As far as I am concerned, they are the model for others to copy.

During a late-season game against the MetroStars (now the Red Bulls) in New Jersey last year, the television cameras caught a remarkable sight in the stands. Was that really Gómez banging a drum with the Barra Brava? Indeed it was. Suspended for the game due to an accumulation of yellow cards, Gómez drove up from Washington with his family and watched the game just like any other United fan.
i can't understand how mls's marketing department didn't do anything with that footage.

Good stuff from Wahl, in so much as I got to the bottom of each page, I was hoping there would be another "Continue Story" button.

MLS - hear no marketing, see no marketing, speak no marketing.

Great article. Wahl really captured a lot of what the barra is about. He is also a pretty cool guy who has a real passion for the game.

Simply awesome and well deserved.
Gosh i remember my first season in the barra, back at the start of 04, and how much I LOVED it. I felt so welcome and I LOVE the energy both Barra and Eagles bring. We simply are THE BEST supporters in MLS, and some of the tops in the world if you ask me. To this day, that awesome feeling has never worn off and im now deep into my third "official" season as a member.
Great stuff!!!!!!:D

Excellent article. Thought that accurately sums up an evening with the Barra. Wonder when he's planning on doing an article about spending an afternoon with some Red Bull fans?

He would need the help of that guy from America's Most Wanted to track em down first. (Grins)
Just posted on the N&A board about it, a really positive article, and a credit to the league.
Still doesn't mean I don't hate United's guts, mind you, but a couple years after the incident, it's a sports hate and not the burning hatred I had after the trip.

Depends on when both of them can get together. It might be tough, I understand it's difficult for them to get the same hours off from their shifts at Wal-mart.
