Have you seen him play El Mono? I know he's not from River...

Played for Boca, was a on and off again starter, a good versitle player who was on the bench in favor of Tevez or Insua at the time.. Was MOTM in 2003 against AC MILAN in the Copa Intercontiental, and scored the tying goal for boca as well as the game winning PK.

Good player... Was going to Move to Banfield but Banfield could not pay the salary he wanted enter MLS.

Lets put it this way when the news hit ARgentina he was going to MLS it was FROWNED UPON! THAT MEANS HE'S GOOD!

Well, I hope this guy is as good as advertised. If he is, his addition would be a welcomed shot in the arm, given the way the team has looked the last couple of months (despite the record).

Just curious if DCU has a scout living down in Argentina or something, lol.

Seriously, it is interesting how they go about finding talent from down there... Word of Mouth...?

Dave Kasper, for one, goes down there pretty frequently.

I gotta admit that I'm much more excited about seeing Donnet on the field than probably any other signing we've ever made. I want to see what this guy has!

(I wasn't tuned in enough in '96 to be excited about Moreno until I saw him show up on the field)

Dunno if anyone in the FO watches it, but the Argentine Football Review Show on FSC is just the best. If anyone hasn't had a chance to see it, check it out.

Argie football is second only to La Liga in terms of entertainment. Kills that boring 4-5-1 premiership drivel sometimes.

Yes...good show. The Racing-River game was on FSC this past week. Good atmosphere in that stadium. Its fun to watch the Arg league just to see and listen to the crowd.

I am super happy about this signing. He is the type of player MLS needs much more of. I was watching a match on Fox Sports Espanol and noticed some of the things that happen during the game would barely happen in some of the top Euro leagues, much less a world cup. It was rough play, needless to say, two guys were going at it the whole game just fouling the crap out of eachother. There was one moment where they were face to face and they literally banged heads and pushed eachother off via headbutt. Then the slide tackling from behind and the elbows... out of control. I am not advocating that type of behaviour for MLS, but it sure as hell was entertaining. Argie football is like the UFC of soccer sometimes. By far one of the most entertaining leagues in the world if not THE most entertaining. I could just watch the crowds all game for one, the play on the field also is top notch.

As for the 1 hour show that gives a run down of the week's top plays, if MLS ever got a clue they would copy it down to the music chosen. It is obviously run by some younger production people because the music chosen is usually some of the very latest drum n bass, techno, electro, ska, jazz, reggae dub, and ambient there is. The way each segment starts is they have a player from each team playing eachother in a computer generated environment introducing the game and then it goes into footage of the fans. They show the fans outside the stadium, the hardcore fans in all their gear, people selling memorabilia, police on horses, people inside the stadium, the fans jumping up and down singing simulatniously... and then BAM the highlights of the game which is usually full of crazy little fights throught the game. MUCH RESPECT to Argentina and their fans... MUCH RESPECT!

Question, is this the same show as the one done in Spanish? If it is then yes, it is TOP NOTCH! I wish MLS could copy it, it can only make more fans.

MONO, do you know any links of Argie news where I could find articles about moves like this and the reactions etc? Like a bigsoccer forum in spanish for Argentina or something?

The news report in Argentina have not covered the move much, he is a pretty good player but far from a superstar. When I first heard he was coming to MLS I was surprised and glad since I want to see MLS succeed (too bad he had to come to DC) He is the first player to come straight from a big club in Argentina to the MLS, Erpen & Nico Hernandez never played in a big team, and Gomez did played in Independiente but was traded to Argentinos before coming to MLS. He will help DC a lot and he is the type of player MLS should target in the future, talented with experience and and not too well known, keeping the cost down while raising the level of play in the league. You guys are lucky. If he succeeds in the MLS the league will not then been seen has a bad destination for foreign players.

And yes Argentina does have the best league in the world when in comes to entertaining and talented with practically everyteam keeping the ball low on the ground and creating play at a ridiculous fast pace. I have a hard time watching other leagues because of this.

You can always check out the Arg. section in bigsoccer.
I read www.ole.com.ar everyday but any major newspapers (www.lanacion.com.ar, www.clarin.com.ar) will have sports sections. Also www.futbolargentino.com.ar
