I have decided to come clean and admit that I have been reading and enjoying all of your posts for several months. I have not, however, been anxious to participate actively in posting my own opinions or responses. I am not sure why. Perhaps it's because I am not a season ticket holder and only attend games sporadically. I really do enjoy the discussions and the information I get here, though.

I wonder how many other "lurkers" are out there on this board, beyond the regular participants. Here's your chance to come out of hiding and make yourself known.

Welcome! You should feel free to post whatever you want. We won't bite. Well, maybe some of us will, but it won't hurt. Much anyway.

You have had a tetanus shot lately, haven't you? :D

Welcome. If you cheer for RSL, this is a good place to be. Also, if you cheer for BOCA, and drink Taragui, well then I'm your first friend.

The thread title sounds like something off of Conan O'Brian. Don't worry, I am not a season ticket holder myself, but fans are fans.

I've attended exactly one game this season and plan to attend one more. I think there is still a place for my flavor of fans. More power to the season ticket holders (I've been one myself)... but everyone has a right to enjoy sports in their own way.

Welcome aboard. You're very brave to enter into this crazy fray. :-D

Welcome amigo. Join Fuerza and I (and a whole bunch of other closet drinkers) in drinking some mate amargo as we read the posts and laugh. And a word of advice, don't stress about sl7vk's posts. He is a much-needed spice in our cuisine. After a while he'll become one of your favorites. So, share with us your opinion, don't take things personally and you'll fit right in.

Worry not. I haven't lived in Salt Lake City for 38 years, and RSL is my second love, not my first...but they tolerate me (I've only gotten one neg rep from this board).

So you're going to be golden.

Welcome. We need as many fresh voices as we can get. :)

EDIT: I too lurked for most of last season becuase I lacked confidence in my written-English. I found reading these boards to be a painless way to improve my language (& slang) skill--all the while feeding my RSL fix. Now I post here occasionally.

OT, but my spoken-English still needs much work. My language coach made me select one of four regional American accents to emulate. I selected "Malibu" (over "Dixie", "Yankee" or "Cheesehead"). Yes, those were the actual names of the course CDs. The most difficult MLS name for a Portugese speaker to pronounce properly? "Dwayne DeRosario".

Welcome Taragui.

No worries, I lurked too for a couple of months before I decided to post. This is a great place though to further your soccer knowledge. You can´t compare the benefits to talking with other soccer fans from around the country.

P.S. RSL FM, your English skills are fantastic. Better than many others that were born here probably, including myself. I´m constantly spelling words incorrectly.

P.P.S. I´m in Buenos Aires airport at this very moment waiting for a Continental Airlines flight that doesn´t leave for about another 6 hours. The tv monitors throughout the terminal have Fox Sports on with almost nonstop futbol. Cool.

I second that FM... You have all kinds of skills. You can debate (chingar?) better in English than I think any of us can in any language. I personally imagine the hardest part about us wacky americans to learn would be our warped sense of humor (see sarcasm/irony) as it takes me quite a while to get most Latin humor.

BTW, I would have gladly taken the cheesehead accent course. That has fun written all over it!

Sort of like the movie, Fargo. :D

I lived in Minneapolis for two and a half years, and that's pretty close to cheesehead territory...great accent.

And RSL FM, you even think better in whatever language than I do.

Welcome and feel free to post or lurk as you like. Thick sink is only necessary if you read the responses to your post. After a while you'll learn who's going to respond and what they'll say anyhow.

BTW, RSL FM has great English and her grammar is usually better than mine. I guess she reads things over before hitting the "Submit" button. I should try that.

I appreciate all the encouragement. I'm afraid I won't be easy to scare away sl7vk, but that looming balding head of Zidane rushing towards me might do it faster than anything you may type  .

Cheering for Boca (or any other South American team) can be frustrating. Whenever they have success, half the players and the coach are usually gone to Europe the next season. It reminds me somewhat of trying to follow hockey or baseball here in Salt Lake in the minor leagues. That is why I so desperately wanted RSL to stay here and not leave town. At least it's a major league franchise.

As far as Taragui is concerned, I am guilty. I just tried a bag with orange peels that was ok, but I still prefer the sin palo variety with a little sugar. It's been 17 years since I was in Buenos Aires, and my mate has a big crack in it. Any suggestions where to get a new one?

Would this stuff be similar to Chimarrao (sp?) of Brazilian Gaucho cluture?

You might want to try the "tecnochitlan" or something like that around 3500 S and 1600 or so west. It used to have an entire aisle of yerba (uruguayan, argentinan, brazilian, etc.), but I went there last week to pick up a kilo and they seemed to have eased back somewhat on their selection.

Another place is on State and 2200 S or so. I can't remember the name, but it's south of Curry in a Hurry on the west side of the street on the south side of the intersection.
