I must confess I feel some kind of joy about the fact that the catrachos are uncapable of winning anything... after all they are our (Costa Rica's) main rival.. but on the other hand I can remember how sick it made me watching how Costa Rica lost and tied games we should have won during the 98 WC qualifiers and .. yes.. the Barbados game.. so I know some people in Honduras must be banging their heads against the wall and I kinda feel bad for them.. (But its better that its them and not us!!.. thats for sure)

In Costa Rica's case a change of mentality was all it was needed to overcome the batch we were.. (10yr batch mind you) Guimaraes brought about that change. Confidence, unity and respect were the key to our success more than tactical or strategic changes..

Why do you guys think Honduras is such an underachiever? IMO they have the same if not more talent that Costa Rica and the USA. They are known as the most courageous team of Cent. America and thats why I dont understand that they can't put 90 mins of good soccer at a time.. Historically they have done more with less talent.. overachievers.. !!

The Honduras Futbol association is talking with Guimaraes to take over their team.. I think that will turn around their current situation.

Oh well, I was going to say good luck.. but then I remember all those times they beat us.. specially that 3-2 in San Jose during the WC 94 qualifiers.. So I guess Im not a masochist and hope they continue underachieving.

Honduras can't get there act together b/c of there administration. Callejas, the President of the Fenafuth, is squandering there funds on proposed youth development and training grounds. He cites problems with construction, but corruption has been in his past. His approach to the National team is no different. He is hiring below average coaches, in order to pay them less, and expecting world class results.

Also, many of the internationally based players never seem to return in time for friendlies (if at all). They have at 4 players in Italy and more in Austria, China, Uruguay, Mexico, USA etc. Most of these players don't participate in friendlies. When they do they only arrive a few days before the game. It's a problem apparent in many countries that have poor economies and good soccer players, (Ghana for example). Anyway, I don't think their situation will change soon. They'll hire another mediocre coach from within their domestic league and fail to reach any significant stage of any tournament. Too bad, i too think they are the most taleneted and fun team in the CONCACAF.

Costa Rica seems to rely on their National team players from their domestic league correct (?). At least the majority it seems. This has probably helped their team in the long run, (lots of practice playing together.

Just my opinion.

Un extranjero sería el nuevo entrenador de la selección hondureña de fútbol, cuyos dirigentes negocian con el serbio Velibor "Bora" Milutinovic, el brasileño René Simoes y el costarricense Alexandre Guimaraes, entre otros.

Four players quit the Honduran national soccer team after being barred from a CONCACAF Gold Cup qualifier in what the federation said was a dispute about money.

Star forward Amado Guevara, midfielders Ivan Guerrero and Walter Hernandez and goalkeeper Noel Valladares left the team Friday, Jorge Abudoj, vice president of the Honduran Soccer Federation, said Sunday.

The players left after watching their teammates beat Trinidad and Tobago 2-0.
