Who do you all consider to be the greatest european soccer/football/futbol/fussball player ever? I'd say Franz Beckenbauer, with Cryuff and Platini tied for a close second.

Chris Marsden from Southampton or Michel Platini IMHO

Um...dunno 'bout that one Sinner.

Clive Walker of Chelsea or Platini.

The greatest European player ever was undoubtedly Alfredo DiStefano.

The next group down from him includes Puskas, Cruyff, and Beckenbauer.

DiStefano was naturalized, and more importantly had already played for Argentina national team, so I will not count him (or else would agree with you MarioKempes).

If one discounts Eusebio for the birth thing:

1) Cryuff
2) Beckenbauer
3) Platini
4) Puskas
5) Kubala

w/ Eusebio

1) Cryuff
2) Eusebio

Puskas would be my top pick, with honourable mentions (in no particular order) for Beckenbauer, Cruyff, Best, Yashin, Matthews, Kocsis, Kubala, Kopa, Van Basten and Bozsik.

I've already showed my discrimination against Beckenbauer, so Cruyff,Maldini, van Basten, Puskas, Baggio, Platini, Best.

I'm adding Bobby Moore to the list. Although IMO the best ever was Cruyff.

Cruijff, Boniek, Puskas, Kopa, Platini, Van Basten and, you'll laugh, but he has earned it to be mentioned: Raul

Wait a few more years. He must perform better for Spain in tournaments before he can achieve comparison with the greatest. He hasn't been able to lift Spain to anything.

My all time:

1. Juergen Klinsmann - Was a one man bombing blitzkrieg

2. Johan Cruyff - Father of total football

3. Cha Bum Keun - One of the greatest goal poachers in Europe and in the Bundesliga when that league was the best in the 70s and early 80s.

4. Marco Van Basten - That acute angle right wing volley goal against Czech Republic and the Bicycle kick against De Graafschap alone are worth putting him up there with the upper echeleons of footballing legends.

5. Zinedine Zidane - Probably the greatest playmaker of all time

6. Ronaldo - Before his injury he was no doubt the greatest striker in the history of the game. Even afte rhis injury and even though he is not as graceful, fast, and as instinctive as he was, he is still better than most of the so-called star players of other big clubs. People just enjoy riticizing him because it is the fashionable thing to do.

7. Maradona

8. Raul Gonzalez - Everything Ronaldo has without the smooth grace and movement.

9. Rivaldo

10. Ahn Jung Hwan - South Korea's Ronaldo/Totti/Emre without the finishing talents of Ronaldo. Otherwise, he is one of the greatest dribblers and smartest offensive MFs in the world. It was a shame that he did not display his true brilliance and talents at the World Cup. What he did during that tournament pales in comparison to wha the is truly capable of.

Try www.raymondkopa.com - his official site.

It's in French unfortunately (unless you speak french), although you could translate it through google.

All of them plays and played for European clubs, bro.

Cha Bum Keun is from South Korea. He's considered one of the greatest strikers in the history of the Bundesliga.

Even if we were to accept your expanded definition of European player, Cha, as good as he was, is not deserving of being placed so high.

I remember Cha playing (I'm old), and as good as he was he was never considered a superstar. How could you justify placing him third on your list and other Bundesliga stalworths, like Rumenigge, Gerd Muller, Littbarski, etc, don't get mentioned? He certainly was not better regarded than them.

Only an opinion. By the way, did you know his son played on the Koread WC'02 team. Subbed and did a good job in several games.
