We know he's fast...the age is in question, but quite frankly we aren't looking for a future star, we need someone to contribute right away. I hope he's signed up by the end of the week....something tells me we are going to need him.

judging by his rep, you've done well to get him, u must be paying him big bucks.

whatever his age, he's young enough to run fast.

if u get bridge as well u have a top six squad.

If Martins comes, cheer. If he's really only 21, rejoice.

When will this be announced officially.

I'll be happy to see a quality striker with pace at the club. Plus he'll rep Nigeria well unlike Babayaro.

Well we have pretty much accpeted we are going to lose him, good luck to you guys with him, Oba is a great young player I would of prefered to hang on to him instead of signing crappy Ibrahimovic.

Great pace and can score with both feet..
Would be also great if we sign Kerzakov *However you spell it*
We seriously need to strengthen our defence though..

Newcastle agree fee for Martins
Newcastle have agreed a £10million fee with Inter Milan for Nigeria striker Obafemi Martins.

The player's representative has been on Tyneside and has now returned to Italy to discuss the offer with his client.

Martins revealed that a deal was 80% done, and Magpies chairman Freddy Shepherd and manager Glenn Roeder will hope to finalise the transfer as they attempt to find a replacement for retired captain Alan Shearer.

Shepherd told the club's official website: "I can confirm we have agreed a fee with Inter Milan for Obafemi Martins.

"It is now up to the player and the agent to agree terms on offer."

Roeder, who is also without long-term knee injury victim Michael Owen, has turned to the Inter Milan striker after being warned off Germany forward Miroslav Klose.

Martins himself seems keen to head for England, with the 21-year-old saying yesterday: "I'm close to moving to Newcastle despite all the initial setbacks. Eighty per cent of the deal with Newcastle is completed.

"Playing in the Premiership has been a long-term ambition and I am extremely delighted with the prospect of concluding that in the next couple of days."

Excellent piece of business......

Good business, he doesn't score enough, and will have Owen to learn that from, but his pure speed and athelticism will be great for Newcastle.

To be fair, I'd rather pay 10m for Martins than for Kuyt (dodges flying baby supplies from Sir Moderator).
