I'm am hella monster-psyched for this. Old timers....er, sorry, alumni games are the total highlight of the regular season for me. You might ask, isn't it hypocritical of me to laugh at Barcelona fans who paid big money to see their heroes jog around, while I'm giggly excited about seeing my heroes jog around after they're retired? Well, maybe. I could say the legends game is a bonus to the regular season game, so technically it's free...but I'd pay Barcelona money to watch the legends. I'm a tool.

Yeah..."legends game." That's what it should be called.

I'm assuming your team puts on something similar. If they don't, my suggestion is to send anonymous threatening letters to your front office until they get with the program.

Sorry, my cat decided to help me with this post. THAT's how crucial legends games are! Even my CAT is marking out!

This afternoon's game - I don't think it's televised, so I guess you all lose - is Galaxy Alumni v. Hollywood United. I don't have to tell you all about the fiery hate these teams have for each other. We're talking second half of the championship game in "Slap Shot" here. Hell, we're talking about Peter Murphy's final moments in "Robocop." Let alone the fans. Steve Jones once narrated an exploitative and disgusting hooligan video about England, Europe and South America, but I have it on good authority that he is absolutely petrified at the thought of seeing the carnage in the Home Depot Center this afternoon.

What bothers me is the tiny number of players confirmed for the Galaxy. The website has Mauricio Cienfuegos, Paul Caligiuri, Robin Fraser, Alexi Lalas, Jose Vasquez , Paul Bravo, and Zak Abdel. Bravo's only Galaxy minutes were...in last year's alumni game, where he and, among others, Jay Goppingen helped pad out the roster. Zak Abdel was the Galaxy's goalkeeper...coach. He currently does the same thing for Chivas USA, so please don't tell his current employers that he's crossing the Goathair Curtain.

No Dan Calichman? No Jorge Salcedo? No Arash Noamouz? No Mark Semioli? And if you think I'm being facetious about dying to see any of those guys, talk to the hand. No, better still, talk to the finger.

The Scum - er, Hollywood United - no, I take it back, The Scum have Steve Jones (there's only ONE soccer-playing Jones in Los Angeles, mothertrucker!), Anthony LaPaglia, Allen Hopkins, Frank LeBoeuf (what has he ever won?), Viv Campbell of Def Leppard*, Billy Duffy of The Cult**, Jimmy Jean-Louis (who played Joe Gaetjens in "The Game of Their Lives" - well, approximated - hell, he didn't even wear the right number), and Danny Cannon (who directed "Goal! The Dream Begins: The Fellowship of the Dream"). (Cannon is mislabeled as the director of "Game of Their Lives," so I hope someone double-checks that before sending Danny Pena out there to break Cannon's leg.)

No Andrew Shue? Perish the thought. A little bird told me that this would be the equivalent of Pele's retirement match - Shue will play one half for the Galaxy, one half for Hollywood, and lead the crowd in a chant of "Love! Love! Love!"

Write about the Galaxy-FC Dallas game? Now why on earth would I want to do that to myself?

*Wonderlick wrote a great song about Def Leppard called "Devil Horns." It's not complimentary.
**Too Much Joy wrote a great song called "Long Haired Guys From England" about, among other things, The Cult.

The only thing that makes you a 'tool' is using words like 'hella'.

Jimmy Jean-Louis (who played Joe Gaetjens in "The Game of Their Lives" - well, approximated - hell, he didn't even wear the right number)

He didn't wear the right number because he was actually playing Larry Geatjens in the film.

They DID call him Larry.

There is a new team called the Hollywood Burn? Thats the dumbest name i've ever heard.

Who was the incredibly round guy who was number 25 for the Hollywood squad?

That game was awesome.....except for the glory hog Lalas at the end.

I don't wanna spoil the game for anybody who tivod it so I won't reveal the score.

Number 25 was none other than Steve Jones himself.

I regret to inform you, Thomas, that Hopkins was actually dishing out the pain in the first half, and not receiving. Allen Hopkins is a cold-hearted killing machine.

What does being a humorless mook make you?

Humor a plenty here. Words like 'hella' just make you sound goofy. Come to think of it, so do words like 'mook'. :D

Words like 'hella' just make you sound goofy. The posts read better if you have the "Masterpiece Theater" theme playing in the background.

Works for me.
