Being in the states, I never know when stuff like this will make it across the pond. I picked up Robbie Fowler's biography at the airport during my Anfield trip last February :)

But I digress. Check out the interesting comments Stevie reportedly makes about Rafa:

Since turning down United's interest Gerrard has carved his name into Anfield folklore with a series of inspirational performances for Liverpool, but he feels that current boss Rafa Benitez views him as simply "a cog in the machine."
The 26-year-old has nothing but respect for Benitez, but believes that the Spanish coach does not go out of his way to forge close relationships with his players.
"We have a good professional relationship. But it's professional," he explained.
"Benitez is not cold towards me, just a little detached. Rafa doesn't think he needs close bonds with players, not even with the captain.
"But respect flows naturally between me and Rafa - everything he says and does is designed to strengthen Liverpool.
"Rafa helped me fulfil my childhood dream of lifting the FA Cup. For that special moment at The Millennium and for Istanbul (where Liverpool won the UEFA Champions League in 2005) I will always revere the man.
"Recently I've even detected a slight mellowing in him, a willingness to think about giving a compliment."

As long as it's no longer touted in some of the papers-not-to-be-mentioned, there might be some snippets worth reading.

Stig's bio will feature less towel-snapping, most likely.

I had a browse through it in Borders the other day and it appears not to be quite the usual dullard's fare that these books can be. Henry Winter ghosted it, so that's definitely going to help.

The section on Gerrard's relationship with Houllier from around 2002 until the end is interesting. He's often referred to him as a father figure - well by the sound of it they bickered like father and son pretty often too.

Steven comes across as a very insecure person. He sounds like the type of person who need comfort and reassurance from managers, players and the board etc.

It wouldn't surprise me if Rafa didn't give Gerrard enough praise and attention after Istanbul win and that's what made Stevie feel as though he wasn't wanted at Liverpool anymore.

I don't usually buy autobiographies of young people as they tend to release a more up to date one when they are around 40, so I might just buy this one, if not I'll wait twenty years for the next edition.
