He would have stopped the Hand of JOB against Mexico if the refs had called it.

I am going to hijack this thread. When Brad saved the penalty versus Korea, it was reported that it was the first World Cup PK save during regular time since 1990. After that, at least four more PKs were saved -- Hedman vs Argentina, Friedel again, Casillas versus Ireland and Buffon vs Korea.

In other words, there were zero saved PKs in '94 and '98 and five in '02 including 2 by one man. Am I the only one who finds this astonishing? Anyone have theories as to why this happened? Simple coincidence/fluctuation?

I was kind of young in '94 so I don't remember it well (was only 10), and in '98 I didn't get to watch much of the games, but one thing I noticed this time was the fouls. More tactical fouls and shirt grabbing than I can remember ever seeing in other games involving national teams.

That may be some of it.

I don't remember quite when this happened, but they have changed the rules regarding PKs and when the keeper can move. It used to be that the keeper had to keep his feet still on the line and could not move them until the ball was struck. Now the keeper can at least move laterally and only move forward when the ball is struck.

But like anything else, the moving forward bit is up to the referee's interpretation.

He is the first keeper ever to save two PK's in one WC Finals..... or was it conservative games??? Anyway, he has a record.

This begs the question if any more penalties were called in Japorea than in the previous two World Cups.

Ictar Yeah if it weren't for all the shirt grabbing and tactical fouling Friedel never would've stopped those two penaltys.

Keller would have saved both of those PKs and dribbled the ball upfield to score two quick counter-attacking goals.

I didn't find the games so conservative.

Flanoverseas, you misunderstood me. I meant to offer that that might be why, if it's true, more penalties were called this cup than in previous ones.

Friedel's the man, that's why he stopped those PK's. =D

1) Keller would have saved the Agoos own-goal too.

2) If Keller had played for Germany, he would have shutout Brazil. (again)

3) If Keller would have been in goal instead of Friedel, DMB wouldn't have whizzed on the field.

4) Keller would have caught the PK against Korea instead of dangerously knocking the ball into play.

5) Friedel has a funny accent.

What would Kasey Keller do, if he were here right now?
He'd make a plan and he'd follow through, that's what Kasey Keller would do
