If the weather is good tomorrow, I'm going to try to go to a reserve game for the first time (I'm not a wuss or anything, I am just getting over a cold and don't want to get drenched if it rains...).

A few questions for the regulars:

-Are these games still held at the RFK Auxiliary fields? Whats the best way to get there from VA? Where to park?

-I bought a digital SLR a couple of months ago and I'd like to try it out at one of the reserve games. Any hints from the pros?

Thanks!

10 am at the Auxilliary field. Park right there. A good way to get there from Springfield is to come up 95-395, cross over the 14th street bridge, and take a right at Independence Ave. Follow Independence (watch for the sign when it joins Pennsylvania Ave - you have to jog a bit to the left) all the way to what I think is 19th street (the one which takes you past the DC Armory/RFK Metro stop). Stay on this road but bear to the right as you pass the parking lots. The Aux. field is on your right.

The reserve matches are indeed at the RFK Auxiliary Fields - They're located on the north side of the stadium at C St. and 21st St. NE. There's parking right in front of the field and there's no charge for admission.

They're great games (you're ten feet from the action) and the team loves the support - come on out!

Is the new Argentine allowed to play in this game?

I don't think so because his contract doesn't start until after he gets his work visa.

I don't think so because his contract doesn't start until after he gets his work visa. I was thinking it's possible because don't these games often feature players who are not under contract or guys trialing? I could be wrong. Anyway, I'm headed out the door for the game, right now.

A defender for Colorado named Keel scored on a scramble in front of the net. Actually it was a great game to watch because it was fairly end to end, and the post was hit 6 or 7 times between the two teams.

A frozen lemonade vendor would have made a killing out there, damn it was hot and unpleasant.

DC dominated the game but couldn't buy a goal. Colorado's keeper (the one who played the second half) had a MOTM performance. Yet, as much as DC dominated, they easily could have lost 0-3. Colorado missed a (dodgily awarded) penalty and they had a shot ricochet out of the inside corner of the post that I was certain was going in.

K Yet, it would have been great if a vendor had come out. I brought 2 bottles of water, and had finished both of them by halftime. I'm glad that I had a towel in the car that I could use to drape over my head, because the sun was absolutely kickin'.

I don't know what Colorado fans think of him, but I've seen him several times and think it's an absolute shame that this guy sits on a bench. He should be at one of the other clubs, starting. He made about 4 SPECTACULAR saves in the 2nd half. As a shot-stopper, the list of goalies in this league who are better is very very short, and it does not include anyone currently on the DC roster.

1-0 Colorado

Damn. Looks like the reserve title is slipping away for this year,

And worse, I'm missing too many of the games!

By the way, I'm gonna have to go on record as disagreeing with you Publius. The penalty call was entirely legitimate ....... an obvious handball in the box. Luchi then went on to miss the whole goal on the penalty kick. Add that to the 3 or 4 shots that Colorado had hit the post and I have to say that the result was an entirely fair one. We had a bit more of the play, but not enough for me to use the word domination, by any stretch of the imagination.

Very unofficial boxscore off the top of my head:

COL 1 - Keel (Tarley) 42 min.
DC 0

DC - McIntosh - Namoff, Prideaux (Stokes - 46), Wilson (Ughiove - 80) - Moose, Simms, Dyachenko (deRoux - 75), J. Carroll (Walker - 46), Mediate - Metcalf, Nickell

COL - Jordan (Coundoul - 46) - King, Keel, Harvey, Clark - Gonzalez, Kirovski (Crawford - 85), Gotsmanov, Noel - Tarley (Wasson - 89), Mathis (Cullen - 65)

It was an entertaining game but the team was lacking in the finishing and corner kick departments (towards the end of the 2nd half - no one seemed to want to take the kicks since they were so unproductive). Ratboy Luchi Gonzalez was the lucky Rapid to catch the most crap from the fans (Mathis also received his fair share), especially when his 50th minute PK attempt went well wide of the post. The Rapids hit a couple posts while DC had one shot hit the woodwork. Stokes actually played a decent half (unlike yesterday) as an overlapping right back. On the flip side, I have yet to see much out of Moose so far in these reserve games and today was no exception, whether it be finishing, crosses, corner kicks, 1 vs. 1 situations, free kicks, etc. Hopefully, he will not fall the way of other recent high Superdraft non-Adu picks of DC (i.e. Van Sicklen, Ara).

One more thing, just to rile people up here ............. the goal came off a series of events that really never should have come into play. First, there was a thru-ball played to a Colorado player towards the top of the DC box. A DC and Colorado player both went for it. The DC player (Prideaux) stuck out his leg in an attempt to sweep the ball out of danger. Instead, the ball struck his foot, did NOT change direction, but continued on to the keeper who smothered it. Ref blows his whistle ............... illegal backpass to the keeper. TOTALLY BS CALL. Free kick for Colorado, taken my Mathis. Mathis strikes the ball off the wall, and it deflects over the endline. Corner kick. CK comes in, bounces off a body and/or head, straight up in the air at the edge of the box where it is just popped back into the middle ........ a rugby scrum ensues and it pops in off of Keel. DC never cleared the ball after the bogus and totally ridiculous backpass call by the ref.

Did Mathis take that blown PK? I thought it was Luchi G.
