Gotta have a thread where we can wallow in NASL nostalgia. No, it's not good to "live in the past", but when you've got things like the Colorado Caribous, the shootout, the 35-yard line, the Cosmos, the Express, Strikers, Roughnecks, Kicks, Sting, Rowdies, Whitecaps, etc. to discuss, who cares what's good for you?

NASL forever! Anyone care to dig up a good NASL photo or graphic to kick off this thread?

Zungul played indoor in SD and was a very exciting player to watch.

The NASL seemed to have the glamour that the MLS is missing. Remember Hugo Sanchez in SD?

I think I just figured out what is missing from MLS: fringe on the jerseys like the Caribou wore in their brief stay in the NASL ;)

The NASL is an important part of the sports past in this country. Let's keep this thread alive!

I have to admit that the Cosmos kit ranks up there with original DC United kit as the best in American history. The both are one color with nice trimming and a badge on the chest. No cartoon logo plastered across the front. Classic.

Loved the NASL- my father had season tickets for the Tampa Bay Rowdies and when the New York Cosmos, with Pele, came to town it was an event. I remember reading somewhere that the MLS purposefully stays away from naming teams after former NASL teams- Metrostars instead of Cosmos, Mutiny instead of Rowdies, etc. Why? Those team names were the best thing about the league- and how about Wes McLeod of the Tampa Bay Rowdies wearing tassles on his socks

Someone still owns the trademarked name New York Cosmos. He wants millions of $$ for it.

I'm going to guess the Rowdies are in the same boat.

MLS is cheap. Whether that's greater wisdom or not is up to each of us to decide.
