View Full Version : Hargreaves Moving to England?

The thread topic is pretty obvious. If you are not interested in this, please ignore this and move on.
German press today reporting that Hargreaves has received a 'fantastic offer' from Manchester United. Will they be able to pry him away from Bayern Munich (who have him signed long term)?
Should absolutely shatter any previous transfer fees involving Cdn players (with Jonathan likely to break that record in a few years).

This would be a great move for the Whore, it will be easier to perfect his fake English accent if he's actually in England. :D

He should move to England. That is where he is playing almost all the time anyway. It makes more sense. I was glad at the World Cup the team showed him more respect.

I think it is kewl he is becoming a bigger part of the England soccer team and golden boy Beckham has received the boot to the derrieure. :) Canadians should be happy and proud of what he is doing.

Isn't this in the wrong forum?
Shouldn't this be in one of the English forums? Or one of the EPL forums?

Answer to Narduch:
This question is up for debate with no true answer to it, so let this thread in this forum.
It's not because the majority of canadians fans feel like OH is a traitor that he isn't canadian anymore. He isn't a canadian PLAYER (in the FIFA definition) but I don't have a problem discussing his carreer in a Canadian forum.

When he stops referring to Calgary as home, I will stop posting about him. As I said earlier, if you are not interested, is it so hard for you to keep your shorts on and just ignore the VERY CLEARLY TITLED thread?

I know why its relevant, I just like to see Ed get defensive about his little loverboy from Bayern. :D

He choose not to play for Canada and that is all...I have labeled his decision as "stupid" was/am disappointed in his choice, but he is as "Canadian" in the citizenship sense as I or any other. Therefore, I think the thread is appropriate for the forum and it will not be moving elsewhere. I am, however, tempted to move the Stephen Hart posts to their own thread and will do so if that particular aspect of this discussion develops legs.
There was fair warning in the title of the thread and in the inital post. The obligatory citizenship/whoregreaves/Calgary connections have all been made and in 5 years have yet to see anyone's mind changed on this subject. Its still a touchy subject even after all these years and I don't plan to be heavy handed in moderating as a result, but personal attacks on any poster will not be tolerated.

I find it a bit odd that Man U would be interested after spending a boatload to get Carrick. I think they are similar type players. Perhaps they are looking at a 4-5-1 with both in the middle, Rooney up front and with Scholes tucked in behind? It would make sense then I guess. I also wonder if Man U can afford him (never thought i'd be saying that)?

Well, at first I was defending OH choice and blaming the CSA for cutting him of the U-17 NT in 1996-1997. But after that I realised that it was stupid to blame the CSA for that since OH was one year younger than the majority of the players trying out for that team and at this age it can make a lot of difference. I also thought that his decision was selfish and not the right one to make.
Like I've said, I don't know why but I'm at peace with this story, don't want to waste my time thinking it anymore and I still feel a bit sad when I see him playing well for England.
Gordon: About the Stephen Hart discussion, I would like if you could start a thread, I'm interested in discussing CanuckFan point but I don't want to highjack his thread anymore.

Just curious, could he play for Canada if he wanted to?

Also add to that what role would he play with Canada if he played for them?

Hargreaves is no longer eligible to play for Canada under FIFA rules. He of course is more than talented enough to play for Canada and would start as a central midfielder (probably the attacking role).
