--News of this broke yesterday; I have differing thoughts of DaMarcus Beasley's potential move back to MLS. (http://www.deseretnews.com/dn/view/0,1249,645193213,00.html)

Part of me is rather disappointed that at 24, a relatively unfinished player, Beasley may want to leave PSV Eindhoven to return to MLS and join Real Salt Lake. At worst, DaMarcus could find another club in Europe, whether it was in Holland, England or elsewhere. It drips with another talented American giving up playing overseas when the waters prove a bit choppy.

But another part of me hopes if Beasley does return, he gets his mojo 2002 World Cup by returning the U.S. DaMarcus seems to be on an island in Holland, whether real or imagined. He lost playing time last season at PSV, and perhaps Beasley and new coach Ronald Koeman may have come together and figured the winger is better off leaving Eindhoven.

But regardless, the U.S. national team is better with a healthy, in-form Beasley at its disposal. Perhaps this is the cure-all DaMarcus needs? Hindsight soon to come...

--The potential of ins-and-outs to MLS for American players could, and may still, bear more fruit. Today's NY Times (http://www.nytimes.com/2006/08/16/sports/soccer/16soccer.html?_r=1&ref=soccer&oref=slogin) states MLS turned down offers for Jimmy Conrad and Clint Dempsey, while the league was offered $2m for Eddie Johnson. Of course, Johnson's price tag has gone down the last few months--remember Benfica's reported bid for the talented but unproductive striker?

--Dempsey seems to really want out at this point to play overseas, and his teammate Taylor Twellmann wants to get paid a bit more. (http://www.boston.com/sports/soccer/articles/2006/08/16/twellman_says_hes_underpaid/)

Just north of 100k, Twellmann wants a raise halfway through his current contract. With Dempsey wanting a new address and Pat Noonan out of contract come January, Twellmann is the Revolution at this point on the field. Tough to find fault in his logic...but if you're a Revolution fan, this offseason could be a quite trying one.

--Is Owen Hargeaves a better fit (and price) for Manchester United than Marcos Senna? (http://home.skysports.com/list.aspx?hlid=410190&CPID=8&clid=1&lid=2&title=United+offer+for+Hargreaves) Fit, probably? A reported 20 to 25 million Euro cost? Way too much.

--Time to see if the second time around for Bruce Arena will be as kind as the first; Red Bulls host D.C. United this evening, your required viewing this evening.

I think that EJ, Conrad, and Dempsey are fantastic MLS players and would be tough to replace if they were sold.

Plus, the summer transfer window is at a very bad time for the MLS season. If I woke up tomorrow morning and EJ and Conrad were both gone, right as the Wizards were getting ready for a playoff push, I would probably stop watching the MLS and focus exclusively on European leagues.

I do expect EJ and Deuce to be sold during the winter though. EJ's stock has been falling for about a year, and Deuce's has never been higher. Both want to play abroad and now's the time to sell!

Very interesting stuff. Based on performance, Dempsey and Twellman are definitely underpaid and EJ is overpaid. I would support any of our players' moving overseas to improve their careers but NOT during the MLS season.

I agree. Dempsey and Johnson, if anyone remains interested in him by then, will be moving in January. The league can't be expected to sell its talent at this point in the season, especially after the World Cup. The league will look to milk all it can out of these players and then let them go in the winter.

As for Beasley, is anyone in Europe going to give him a chance after his dismal World Cup? Maybe some time back in the confines of MLS would do him good.

I agree the league shouldn't sell those players now when they are needed to help promote the league. Plus, they still have time to go to Europe later. As with Beasley a return to the MLS might do him some good but such a return can and will be only interpret as a failure by the media when maybe he wasn't given a much of a chance. He does bring more name recognition to the league which is always a positive specially with the casual fans.

Beasley returning does doesn't impress me. The truth is the better leagues is where our players cut their teeth and this would prove he can't get it done. He lost his spot after losing his form following injury. If he was playing good he'd play if not he'll sit. But I think it surely doesn' t help the national team to have a player who can't get the job done at PSV. He can come back to the MLS but he's gonna have less competition, meaningless games, he's gonna be gifted a spot and unlike PSV he's not gonna have to prove it. But that's why our players go overseas: to prove themselves. And he'll have just shown that he can't play cosistently at a high level. I hope he sucks it up and earns his spot back and not run back home. We need guys like Convey who will fight for a spot and succeed. Not go home when there's hard ship. My advice is just get better.

As for EJ. He's got two goals this year and the season is more than half over. I think the chance of anyone being interested in him is rather small. Actually let me correct myself cause apparently west Brom made an offer. Not really sure why but ok. Truthfully i'd rather have Jeff Cunningham. Right now Johnson is just fast but he's not a consistent finisher in the MLS. I think the boat is gone for Eddie Johnson.

Dempsey should go if there is interest and strike while the iron is hot. The structure of MLS doesn't help him so if i was him i'd doo whatever it takes to leave.
