Sport 1 News in Germany is reporting that German international midfielder Andreas Moller has an offer from MLS and one from a team in Saudi Arabia, moving on after the end of the Bundesliga season:

The Revs do have a senior internatonal slot open, and the guy is a central midfield player:

Name: Andreas Moeller
Nationality: German
Born: September 2, 1967
Height: 1.80m
Weight: 76 kg.
Current Club: FC Schalke 04 (German Bundesliga)
Prevous Clubs: Borussia Dortmund (1994-2000), Juventus (1992-94), unity Frankfurt (1990-1992), Borussia Dortmund (1988-90), unity Frankfurt (1981-88), BSC SW Frankfurt (1974-81)

Over 400 appearances in the Bundesliga...

Over 70 matches in European Cup competition...

Over 85 caps for the German National Team...

CNNSI had the following to say about the player in their WorldCup 1998 bio: "attacking midfielder with a powerful shot and an ability to drive his side forward. Enormous confidence which rubs off on his team mates."

Apparently he wants to play one more year of professional soccer, and in an enviroment away from the circus of attention in Germany.

Sounds like he'd be a good fit in New England, thoughts?

I think he'd be a tremendous pickup for the Revs. I really feel that you guys have a big hole in the middle of the field. Andy Moeller or Leo Cullen is really a no brainer frankly.

Plus, I would LOVE to see Chris Armas frustrate the hell out of him at least one more time. In case no one knows what I'm talking about, Armas matched up against Andy in the famous 3-0 victory over Germany in Jacksonville. It was regarded it as Armas's coming out party, and was celebrated with three straight elbows to Chris's head by Andy.

I think only one connected.

... and Leo Cullen is a defensive-midfielder, so he's a poor comparison to Moeller.

Hmmm, Moore and Twellman up top with Moeller playing behind them?

I was under the impression that NE plays a 4-4-2 though, with the two midfielders sharing offensive and defensive duties.

I wasn't really comparing Cullen and Moeller, just stating that Leo would most likely be the one to lose his starting spot if Andy came around.

Holy ****!

This guy was playing professionally at the age of 7??? And I thought Adu was precocious... ;)

He would be a good fit, but I've noticed a lot of aging European players using alleged MLS offers lately in attempts to further negotiating positions. I wonder if this may be the same thing...

Nowak didn't run very much and he was very much in their plans. Have we found our horse?

I hate to even go there. Most of our "horses" have either turned out to be chimeras or old-grey-mares. I'd settle for a Shetland at this point (perfer the pony, but would take the sheepdog).

I'm not interested in any more over-priced, over-35 Euro players who want to cush down for a year or two in MLS and take salary cap money away from younger U.S. players in development.

Where's our pride?

Nowak was probably faster with the ball at his feet then half the Revs were at a full sprint. Might not have been able to do it for 90 minutes, but he's damn fast.

When MLS grows past its 'infancy stage', I'll definitely adopt this perspective.

Until then, we need the legitimacy that veteran, well-known Euro players afford.

Like: Zenga, Sutter, Donadoni, and their ilk?

What hooey. Do you know how dated this assessment already sounds?

The league is starting its eighth year, and you know who's really provided MLS with "legitimacy" to the rest of the world? Moore, McBride, Freidel, Hahnemann, Beasley, Armas, Donovan...and the list continues to grow.

Did you even watch the WC last year?

What the heck does pride have to do with it? For him or any other player, the question is would he improve the team?

There's no question in my mind that a healthy, willing Moeller would be a major step up for the Revs in that role. If it's for real, and we can afford him on the cap, I can't see a good reason not to.

Not to mention the fact that developing U.S. players can learn from veteran European players. Look what Stoitchkov did for Razov and Wolff.

Like Nick Downing, who's done so much over the course of his career with the Revolution.

I have to agree with Magpie

Downing or Moeller - which one would help us win this year ?

Moeller hands down
