ok so im in the market for some new boots, but i have a problem. right now im in the US but in september im moving to london. a friend of mine told me that i needed to look for cleats that were better for soft ground rather than hard ground because it would be better for the UK? i figure since there are some brits on here maybe one of you could tell me whether it was true or not. thanks. oh yeah im deciding between the adidas copa mundials and the world cup.
thanks.

Oh, duh. I follow you now. :p :o
Right. I think your friend might be fcuking with you. Having lived in both the States and England, the grass is just grass. Depending on your location Stateside, it might rain more often than you're used to so the ground will be softer but that's all.

I am a big fan of moulded studs regardless of weather. I had a pair of Umbro ones that were great, a pair of Nike Mercurials that were fantastic and currently I have some Adidas predators (2yrs old) and they are good too.
Never had any problems on a hard pitch or soft pitch. People may say that the blades or moulded studs cause more injuries on hard ground but i've never found this.
Buy the boots here, go to SportsWorld Or SportsSoccer (whatever it's called). Massive discounts.

i went with the world cup. screw in cleats, plus i had a 50% off coupon for the store that i work at. talked with the footwear manager who's from the uk. he said to go with the world cup. so who knows how it willwork out. itll be alot different than the 20 dollar cleats im used to.

FG boots are not particularly good for a Sunday league game on a pissing down morning in December. Then again, neither are SG...
Bit of a myth mate, your boots should be fine.

I associate 'cleats' with Baseball or American Football shoes, and 'studs' with proper football boots.

I have three pair and my favorite is by far my Nike Mercurial Vapors. Great for soft to fairly hard surfaces. Nothing better than Mercs when you play on a properly maintained pitch. ;)

Good choice.
World Cups and Puma Kings are the choice of a vast number of players in the lower leagues and in decent standard Sunday football. If the big stars didn't have deals which forced them to wear new boots with whistles and bells each season then they would still be in those.
The are simple, durable boots that are class and should last. If you are playing in England then you will need boots for soft ground, so they are definitely the right choice.
If you play on pitches which get frozen at all (like on Saturday mornings) then you will probably need firm ground or astros as well. Otherwise it can be like ice skating.

im moving to london..
That being the case you should probably go with studs rather than those new fangled blades. London soil tends to be very "clay-like" and as such is sticky as fook when its wet.
Blades have a tendancy to not release from the ground too well when its like that, and you may find yourself with a broken ankle if your boot is stuck in the dirt when some sunday leaguer slams into you....
...or you can just take a leaf out of my book, get mashed up on Scotch, and break your ankle comming home! Its equally fun!

i wanted the puma kings, but when someone hands you a 50% off adidas coupon you stick with adidas.

There's very little to choose between them really.
I wear World Cups at the moment but have worn Kings in the past and they are both brilliant boots. They just differ slightly in width.
