How about not committing fouls in the box in the first place?
Just a thought. You don't have to forward this to the freaking Nobel Committee if you don't feel like it. Just putting it out there.

1) How about prohibiting a player from stepping inside their opponent's penalty box in the last 3 minutes.
or
2) How about playing attacking soccer thru-out the entire game(instead of going for a tie) and try to score as many goals as possible, so that a last-minute penalty goal will not make a difference.

Know anybody who attacks for 90 minutes?

Know anybody who attacks for 90 minutes?
I've been known to attack an open bar at a wedding easily for a good 90 minutes. Even well into added time, extra time, a sudden death and believe it or not even a shoot out... I'm pretty sure FIFA would have frowned upon the all the facets involved to finally crown the winner; but lets just say I didn't win in the end.
She puked...

You could ban all Italians.
Or teach Englishmen to play instead of hacking.

we could get rid of all the divers from south america, italy and as well as beckham and joe cole...and then, get rid of all the thugs...such as the english B team and the english A team, as well as teams like dc united umm...and then...this would leave the refs, to sort of hang out for 10 minutes at the end of each match and have A big wank

Scrap the present PK-box rule and only award PKs when 1) a card-worthy foul is committed in the box, or 2) a foul is committed on a "breakaway" goal (the kind you give the defender a red card for). If a non-card-worthy foul is committed in the box, award a free kick from the arc outside the top of the box. If you disagree, please explain how the "foul" committed on Chris Klein in the DC-RSL game was worthy of changing the game aside from the PK rule. The other "foul" was at least in a dangerous shot zone. Klein was 2 inches from the goal line and edge of the box.

Penalty area sounds so much better.

SKlein was 2 inches from the goal line and edge of the box.
And John Wilson, who 1) has played soccer for some 20 years and 2) had just committed a foul in the penalty box - so he knew the risks - should have known better. Instead he had the "It's the 90th minute, there's no way he'll call this" mentality that so many defenders have.
If you can't do the time, don't do the crime.
It's a very simple rule. Commit a foul inside the area that is neatly chalked off, and it's a penalty kick.

Agreed. A box is a 3 dimensional object.
I think most good referees already enforce the "PK needs to be a serious foul rule", even though it's not on the books. Nobody likes to give away cheap penalty kicks

There is nothing wrong with a penalty in the last minute provided it is a legitimate foul.
I remember the peanlty that England gave up late against France in Euro 2004 that was a legitimate penalty. The only questionable penaltys fresh in my head that were of late was Italy agasint Australia in the WC which coulld of gone either way, (but didn't go the way that I wanted) and Chivas USA vs. Chicago the other night (eh).
The only things that bother me are
A) When there is a drive, of course this which annoys us all. Even when its
the team we are rooting for (Steven Gerrard in Champions League Final?)
B) When the foul does not fall within the limits of what the referee has established is a foul throughout the course of the match. I think we can all agree that a foul is differnt in the world cup than it is in seria a, the bundesliga or the premiership.
Good refs are consistant with calls and establish themselves throughout the length of the game. As a player you know what will consititue a penalty by the 90th min, its just a matter of wether you can get away with it.

Nobody likes defenders to have carte blanche to hack away at attacking players, either.
