I know, they're usually full of crap. But I was thinking about this today and surprised to see it on there - destiny? :D
For 8 mill? Bargain, even double that is good. Anyone see him last night against Hannover?

They picked this up from the press -- The BBC gossip column had it yesterday attributed to the Mirror. I'd be ecstatic. Just the type of player we need.

Right on. Definately preferable to Kuyt.

Man. There's going to be no star players anywhere else in the world when the Premiership finishes buying them all up.

I would be smiling for a month if we could pull this off. Can you imagine the interplay that guys like Klose and Fowler would have linking through the last 1/3 of the field. Klose is so much more of a footballer now than he was a few years ago. He still has great pace and athleticism, but his vision and passing and technique made him one of the best forwards of the tournament. He pretty much made Lucas Podolski's tournament for him. Klose could be a serious threat for leading the league in goals, especially considering the space and service that players like Gonzalez, Gerrard, Alonso and company would afford him.
It also would be nice to finally have a forward who attacks headers. It is a bit hard to believe, but over the past 3 years the forwards who have been most clinical at striking the ball with their heads for Liverpool (if you actually look at goals scored) have been little Luis Garcia and before he left, Michael Owen. Peter Crouch is willing, but he just doesn't generate any power and Morientes was wasteful with his chances. A guy like Klose who can motor around AND has great springs and whip on the ball would give us a dimension that would be worth a couple games in Europe and in the league. Especially considering the quality that we have on the side in terms of dead-ball delivery.
He is the perfect complement to our other strikers. And I agree that he is a far better value than Kuyt - even if he cost us the same price.
The strong title challenge Werder Bremen were anticipating making causes me to wonder a bit at why they would be willing to sell him, but if we could pull this off - even Jose Mourinho would have to stand and watch. Do I dare to believe. This is the best rumor I have heard all Summer. Please make it bear fruit!

I'm all for this. Klose is a great player. He is exactly what we need to complete our squad.

Yeah, we're all on pretty much the same wave-length. Perfect player for us. If this is true though, we'll have to bid quite high - still worth it.

I'm surprised at all the dislike of Kuyt on this board. I always thought he'd be perfect for your team and he's really a fantastic player, despite his poor showing in Germany.
Have you guys actually seen him play, outside of the World Cup?

I think most people on here have not seen him play, so any criticism based on two World Cup games is harsh. I haven't seen much of him myself, but from what I've heard he could be a good fit.
Klose is class, and everyone could see that because he has done it at the highest level. I would be excited about signing either player.

i think the general concensus is that it's rather a big jump from Eredivisie to EPL. he's a large fish is a mid-size pond. in the EPL, he'd be a mid-size fish in a large pond.
but, to answer your question, i haven't seen him play elsewhere.
does he remind you of a taller Robbie Fowler? i only ask that question of Toffees fans.

Kuyt may be a decent player, but the price Feya want is very high. Add to that the state of our current striker stable and the overall quality of our team right now and many of us would rather see an elite, proven (as much as possible) guy who can help us win a championship.
A guy from Holland like Kuyt, who has not demonstrate elite ability in any single area of his forward play in a world-class competition, could be the next Larsson or the next Kezman. And the price to find out (£14m) is just too high.
I believe that this year and the next are our best chances for disthroning Chelsea for a Premier League title. Chelsea are undergoing a lot of flux with their tactical changes, some uncertainty about players (LB, Gallas, etc) and some key players going through poor form (Lampard). Man Utd are rebuilding (at least in midfield) and are really only solid/consistent in the defensive end. Arsenal have a world-class U23 team, but are a year or two away (perhaps) from seeing a return on their investment with players like Fabregas, Reyes, Van Persie, Eboue, Toure, etc.
This is not the time to take a chance on Kuyt. The next striker signed by Liverpool could be the making of the team.

Agreed. Klose is also an effective target man who is capable of receiving a ball in isolation and pushing it back into the path of an onrushing midfielder - a perfect complement to Gerrard, Xabi and Luis Garcia.
Piss off Chelsea! The Reds are coming for it this year.

I can see that analogy.
He'd certainly need some adjustment time, but really, he's the perfect fit for English football. He's big, incredibly strong, good at both ends of the field, got good vision, good in the air, always seems to be at the right place at the right time, has an incredible work rate and is a true team player. Oh, and he can score quite a few goals, too.
Obviously, the Dutch league isn't comparable to the Premiership, but it's not like he's playing at some no-name Dutch club either. He's by far the best player at Feyenoord, the heart and soul of the team, really. And obviously, Feyenoord is of the "Big Three", so they've seen European action.
But, for me personally, I'm remiss to compare anyone I like to Robbie Fowler. It's the Evertonian in me, I suppose. :D
To be perfectly honest, though, when I first heard he was linked to you - it just clicked in my head. I thought, "yeah, that'd be deadly."

That's a good point about not being able to afford to find out. It's my opinion that he'll do quite well, but I certainly understand not wanting to take the chance with that kind of money. I didn't realize Feyenoord were asking that much.

Can you at least admit that you haven't seen Kuyt play other than a couple of games? The fact that Rafa has been after him for a while now has to tell you something. And nobody is paying £14m. Most of the articles say that Feyernord want around £10m, and Rafa is still trying to bring the price down from there. Of course there is risk involved, but thats the same with any new signing. Morientes was a proven world class striker at the biggest club in the world and he was a total flop at Liverpool. I think our scouts have seen enough of Kuyt to have a pretty good idea about how well he could do at Anfield.

i'd want to see where he's scoring his goals. against Ajax and PSV or against ADO and RKC?

After watching them both, I'd 'much' prefer Klose to Kuyt.
I hated Klose after the 02 WC. he was diving around like Ronaldo was this time around. One time he went down for a PK, that he didn't get, when it was easier to score. Seems to have stopped that though.
He'd work in well with his movement and finishing.
