View Full Version : 19/8-20/8 Matchday Discussion [all R]

In an effort to give neutral fans a place to discuss the matches in which their team isn't playing, we're going to try something new this year. I realize a lot of club boards already have something similar, but I also know a lot of people don't feel comfortable discussing certain matches in a pro-club forum.
The rules are simple:
If reading stuff that is necessarily 100% rah-rah about your team upsets you, don't bother reading or posting in this thread. There are match threads in most club forums that would better suit you.
Be respectful of other people's opinions, even if you disagree.
Trolling of any kind, particularly personal attacks, will not be tolerated.Consider this a trial. If it goes well, we'll continue it all season. If not, well, we tried.
This weekend's matchups are:
19/8 - Saturday
Sheffield United - Liverpool
Arsenal - Aston Villa
Everton - Watford
Newcastle United - Wigan Athletic
Portsmouth - Blackburn Rovers
Reading - Middlesbrough
West Ham United - Charlton Athletci
Bolton Wanderers - Tottenham Hotspur
20/8 - Sunday
Manchester United - Fulham
Chelsea - Manchester City
The [R] in the thread title covers results for all of these matches.

I wonder how much the International fixtures will effect line ups?
The injury watch is on.
Does anybody else think they really went overboard on the silly pills with this one?

From the ones I get to see I will enjoy Reading vs. Middlesborough and Wigan vs. Newcastle.
Can't wait to see Bobby Convey and Marcus in action.

I'm obviously stoked to see Newcastle against Wigan, but I think Reading might be an intriguing team this season and I'm interested to see how they do against Premiership opposition. I think they just might stay up, but we'll find out against 'Boro.

Well, we now have the answer to that one and the game hasn't been played yet. For Ashton and Pardw, the effect is significant.

Sheffield United - Liverpool is 1-1 in the 70th minute. Unfortunately, I don't have tv for this one. Good game?

It wasn't that bad of a game at all, got pretty open in the second half.
Liverpool were simply gifted a goal, no contact what-so-ever on the so called penalty.
However, it should be pointed out, that at no stage did Gerrard even look for one.
The idiot ref decided that there was contact and gave one.
United got what they deserved though, after taking the lead, they rarely crossed the half way line, playing bunker ball.It looked like it would only be a matter of time untill Liverpool scored anyway.

Yeah, but against a team like Liverpool, that's to be expected. Still a huge surprise.

Warnocks ban will probably be increased after he sees it on replay.
Given his record of lambasting poor ref decisions, he'll go mental when he sees this one :)

I'm spoilt for choice now, Newcastle v Wigan is on FSC, Arsenal game is dull so far though, might switch over at half time.
