Anyone know how is Wayne Bridge doing right now? I've read that he's probably going to be transferred. I have not looked into Chelsea or this particular player this much until I have heard about their rise to fame and their loss to the MLS All-Stars. Has he also played during the 2006 World Cup?

He went to the World Cup but didn't play. For some reason Mourinho doesn't rate him and wants to spend buckets on money to bring in a slightly better player in Ashley Cole.

Slightly better??

I've been watching Bridge in the friendly matches, and against Liverpool and he looks wanting.

I don't understand why we are still holding on to him, I don't rate him at all. I would much rather have Cole.

Even if he has not been playing much, would he be considered an asset or a liability? I have not seen any videos of his performance to convince me that he is a good player.

Wanyne Bridge was found wanting in every pre-season match.
I can't wait for Cole to come in, than Bridge can have a seat on the bench.

Yeah, on that basis we're gonna have to bench Lampard, Shevchenko, Robben and half the team.

Bridge, like most players, needs regular football to be at his best, not for fitness but for mental awareness as much as anything. Look at JT when Crouch left him standing looking like a right prawn. Maybe we should bench him as well.

In the past Bridge has been a better defender than A. Cole who is sometimes hopelessly out of position and just relies on his speed to make up the difference. He's also a much better crosser of the ball BUT, it has to be said, he's not as quick over a short distance. I think that's why JM doesn't rate him as highly but, personally, I think that's a mistake because overall his play is better.

ashley cole is a better player than bridge.

full stop.

bridge is possibly better going forward, but ashley is by far the better defender, and mourinho prefers his defenders to defend primarily.

also, its about big club and big game mentality, ashley has it, he walked in the england team and cemented his spot from word go, bridge has never quite convinced.

Well, if we're relying on that tactical genius, Eriksson, to decide the issue we ARE in trouble. This is the man who played Beckham as a holding midfielder against NI and we all know how well that worked out.

The truth is Cole has been defensively suspect for a long time. Not because of his overall skill and certainly not for his speed, which is excellent, but because of his positioning which used to be awful. It's better now, though, I'll give you that but whether it's up to the standard we're gonna need has yet to be seen.

Personally I think Cole will be more effective in some games, where he's up against a fast winger like Aaron Lennon or Lionel Messi and less effective where he's expected to put in crosses or hold his defensive position in the normal run of play.

We'll see, I suppose.

bridge is suspect defensively.

cole is a great defender.

sorry to break it to u.

u will never see a winger get the better of cole, he's too tenacious, too competitive, too fast, too determined, too skilful, too good.

he seldom allows his direct opponent to even get a cross in.

in short, he's a far better footballer than bridge.

waffle on all u like, i dont care

1. I think most people would agree that it is actually Cole who is better going forward.
2. Cole is better than Bridge, although the margin is very slight and I think that is all that folks have really been saying.

what most people think is irrelevant to me, i believe the evidence of my own eyes

cole is not the best going forward, he's fast down the wing, but he's not as good at crossing as bridge, he rarely assists or scores.

cole defends like his life depends on it, bridge is often found wanting.

while bridge will have spurs and newcastle as suitors, cole will have madrid and chelsea.

u do the math

Whatever, I was trying to be kind to you, fact is you know nothing and your own eyes are deceiving you.

same must apply to mourinho then

he thinks coles better than bridge, n he's right.

n if u knew anything about mourinho, which u dont, you'd know he wants his defenders to defend primarily, n he judges them thus.

like i said, cole is the better defender, u keep believing the hype

p.s. thanx for the sentiment, someone evidently rattled your cage.
